What Do You Dream of Accomplishing This Year?
Now that it's a new year, is something still tugging at your heart that you'd like to accomplish? Are you hoping and praying that this is the year it will happen?
A few years ago, when I asked a group of women from New Covenant Community Church in Fresno about the dream God has whispered on their heart, it got the women thinking. One of them, named Carolyn, came up to my book table afterwards and purchased my book When a Woman Discovers Her Dream.
"What is your dream?" I asked her. "I don't really know, but when I discover it, I'll tell you," Carolyn answered.
I'm so glad Carolyn Kovalski kept her word. Eight months later, she sent me an email Facelogic Spaannouncing to me the "Grand Opening" of her Facelogic Spa in Central California...the outcome of her search to discover her dream. Just 6 months after opening, her spa won the International Membership Drive for the fastest growing facelogic spa (more than 4,000 guests have visited the spa since its opening) and it has won numerous People's Choice awards for Best Day Spa in Fresno and Clovis. Her business was among the top 5 in 2008 Skin Inc. Magazine's Best of the Best Awards for Best New Day Spa  and it won the Magazine's Best of the Best Award award for Most Employee Friendly Spa. But more than that, Carolyn has received the blessing of being able to minister to women in her local area by following a dream God placed on her heart.
Carolyn has a full time career job but wanted to do something more that made her heart sing... something that would allow her to minister to others. Today Carolyn joyfully recalls opportunity after opportunity to meet women, encourage them, and let them know they are beautiful in God's sight.
I had the privilege of joining Carolyn for her Spa's  "Two Year Anniversary Celebration"  along with my daughter, Dana, and my sister, Kristi Foss, over Thanksgiving weekend and we all experienced a wonderfully relaxing 50-minute Signature Facial.
Carolyn listened to the nudge on her heart...and God saw it through. "It hasn't been easy at times," she admits. But all along the way, God has provided and blessed.
What is it God has been prodding you to step out and do this year for His glory? If you're not sure, take a relaxing and inspiring read through When a Woman Discovers Her Dream. And if you do know, then read on....for some tips to get closer to that dream this year!

How do you know when God is calling you to something more?

If you're unclear whether a dream of yours is really from God, here are a few ways to find out:

Dream book coverTake Yourself Out of the Equation: When God called Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, Moses was all about himself. "Who am I, that I should go?" "What if they don't believe me?" "But I can't speak!" Once Moses looked at Who God is and what God can do, there was no longer any argument. If you feel God might be calling you to do something, but you don't think you can do it, get your eyes off of you and onto the One who is able to do immeasurably more than you can ask or imagine.(Read Ephesians 3:20!)

Talk to a Pastor or Leader in Ministry: Sometimes others can see better what you are being called to do than you can.Ask a respected, godly leader if they believe you might be called to do something in particular. The Bible says "plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed (Proverbs 15:22)."

Turn Your Gaze Upon God's Glory: We can easily get distracted by our own desires. But when God's glory is our greatest goal, that is when He begins to lay on our hearts what He wants, and begins to accomplish it for His glory.  Make Isaiah 26:8b the prayer of your heart: "Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts."
