What is God's specific dream for you?
Have you ever wondered if you are living out God's potential for your life? I believe that just as every Daddy has a dream for his little girl, your Heavenly Father has a dream for you as well...and that plan and purpose He has for you is as unique to you as your fingerprints.  A God whom we're told counts the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30), and records our days in a book (Psalm 139:16) and saves our tears in a bottle (Psalm 56:8, NASB) surely would not just set you on this earth at random, not caring this way or that about what you do with your life. No, rather, He has a plan for you...a dream for you...and that dream is very possibly something you've always wanted to do, but never thought you could.
Discover Dream book coverThe Bible tells us "We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). The original Greek word in that sentence for "workmanship" is "poiema," from which we get our English word "poem." Another way of reading that verse is this: We are God's poem -- His unique expression of Who He is...created anew in Christ Jesus for great works that He planned for us long ago. That sounds like a destiny. That sounds like a dream. And that is what God had on His mind when He designed you in the unique way that He did, when He placed you in the particular family that He did, and when He allowed life's circumstances to roll your way as they did. It was all a part of His plan to make you His poem, for His glory and renown.
So how are you His poem? I'm glad you asked! Women across America have been asking me that and it's why I wrote my book When a Woman Discovers Her Dream. Let me give you a little encouragement for your day as you ponder the question "What is God's dream for me?"
  • God's dream for you is closely connected to your passion in life. What is it that absolutely love to do? What is it that gets you excited? What is it that you feel so strongly about that you must speak out about it? There's a reason you have your particular convictions.
  • God's dream for you is closely connected to your pain. Have you experienced something that has caused you to grow closer to God? Have you dealt with circumstances that have developed in you a compassion and credibility to minister to others?  God wants to redeem that pain into your purpose in life.
  • God's dream for you is closely connected to your place in life. What opportunities have been placed in front of you as a wife, mother or career woman?  What experiences are you collecting now that are building your character? God will use whatever comes your way to shape you for His plan and purposes. Be open to the possibilities and opportunities that come your way to serve.
No matter what your dream might be, it's time to discover it and live it out for the glory of God. Whether you've dreamed of writing a book, owning your own business, starting a non-profit organization or going back to school to pursue that career you've always wanted, it's not too late. In  When a Woman Discovers Her Dream, I take you step-by-step through the process of discovering the dream God has whispered on your heart and then I show you how to step into it and live it out for His glory.  This book includes application sections and thought-provoking questions to help you through the process of discovering and living out God's specific purpose for you.
Go ahead, my friend. Ask God "How am I your poem?" "How can my life bring glory to You?" I believe He's been waiting all your life for you to ask Him about the dream He has whispered on your heart.

Have you always dreamed of writing a book?
Is it your dream to write a book? We all have a story. We all have lessons learned we'd love to pass on to others. But are you being "called" to write or is it just something you'd like to do? Because many of my readers ask how to know if they're called to write, as well as how to get started, I have provided resources in this newsletter and on my website to help answer your questions. To begin, here are some questions to ask yourself to help you know if you are truly being called by God to write:
  • Do you want to write a book simply because you have a great story to tell? Or is there a burning inside of you that won't let up until you get that story down on paper and begin telling others for the glory of God? When the goal is for His renown, not your own, it's possible that He's putting that desire on your heart so he can accomplish it through you and be glorified in it.
  • Are you hoping to make some money through it? Then book-writing is probably not for you. (See my article "Five Common Myths About Book Writing.") A true writer writes because she must, whether she gets paid to do it or not.
  • Is there a topic you are truly passionate about that people end up talking to you about when they need advice, encouragement, or direction? To be passionate about something is to be "willing to suffer" for it...to be so deeply convicted about it that you have to speak out or do something about it. If so, that passion may be the subject of the book God is calling you to write.
  • Does writing a book seem like something fun to do or does it feel more like a burden and responsibility? Although writers, for the most part, love to write, the books do not always come easily. Authors, in a sense, cut themselves open and bleed onto the paper, making themselves vulnerable and therefore credible to their readers. That kind of vulnerability can bring unwanted attention and criticism, at times. So a better description of your "calling" to write might be "an offering of sacrifice to the Lord" rather than merely a "hobby."
