FAUX HOME, Kathleen Yusiewicz

There is no greater compliment than a personal referral. Kathy, a skilled home stager, joined the Greater Chapel Hill Association of REALTORS® at the encouragement of a REALTOR® member who was pleased with her work. Call Kathy at 919-225-2417 or kathy@fauxhome.com to help you stage a home today.

Special thanks to JoEllen Munsee, Chair of the Fix-A-Home Committee.  JoEllen procured a grant for GCHAR from Strowd Roses in the amount of $2,000 for this year's Fix-A-Home project.  JoEllen took it upon herself to research, complete and submit the grant application.  The mission of Strowd Roses Charitable Foundation is to make Chapel Hill and Carrboro Bloom.  With their financial assistance, we plan to do just that in October at the sixth annual Fix-A-Home project.  Save the dates:  October 17-19, 2012.  The committee is currently in the process of veting applicants for this year's home.

ROOKIE ROUNDTABLE

Wednesday, June 27, 12:00-1:00pm, GCHAR office

TOPIC:  Working with Difficult People:  Learning how to identify personalities and how to adjust our actions accordingly.

  • What do you do when your clients make things more difficult than they should be?
  • Why do people get angry, become stubborn, or argumentative?
  • How do we handle stressful situations and what can we do to make things go more smoothly?

Experienced brokers have employed certain practices based on personality profiling and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.  There are certain tell-tale behaviors that will broadcast to a broker what kind of client he or she is working with and how to respond accordingly.  Learn the simple tricks (and maybe a little about yourselves as well).  This should be a fun and fast hour of invaluable information that might really help your career.

Email Sue@chapelhillrealtors.com to reserve a seat or call the office at 919-929-4032.  Registration required for planning purposes.

PIZZA will be provided thanks to the generosity of our sponsor, Jon DeHart, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.

TO DO...renew NC Real Estate license by June 30

Be sure to renew your real estate license.  Go to

www.ncrec.gov and click on LICENSEES ONLY, login, and pay $40.

Also, be sure to check the status of your CE credits.  You need 4 hours update and 4 hours elective.  Even though you know you took them, it is a good idea to check because errors have been known to happen when the roster lists are uploaded.  It only takes a minute of your time now to avoid what could be hours of your time later if there is a problem with the reporting of your CE.

MOVIE NIGHT, July 17, 3:30-6:30pm

If you attended Debbie Long's update class this past year, you may recall the snippet she played from the movie, Pacific Heights, the widely popular 1990's thriller about a rental situation that went very wrong, very fast

"It seemed like the perfect house. He seemed like the perfect tenant. Until they asked him to leave."

Because many of you deal with property management in one form or another on a daily basis, we thought this would be a great movie to show for our annual Movie Night, Tuesday, July 17, 3:30-6:30pm at the Chamber of Commerce.  Immediately following the movie we'll have moderated discussions with property managers and insurance agents about the do's and don'ts.

The price is FREE and includes pizza, soda, movie candy, and popcorn thanks to our generous sponsor, LISA SHERMAN with First American Home Buyers Protection.  Space is limited so you must register in advance.  Visit our website, www.chapelhillrealtors.com, click on the calendar, and sign up today.

Code of Ethics Requirement:

Since January 1, 2001, all REALTORS® and applicants for REALTOR® membership have been required by the National Association of REALTORS® to complete 2 1/2 hours of ethics training every four years. The current NAR mandated Code of Ethics (COE) quadrennial cycle is set to expire on December 31, 2012.

There are 2 options to complete the requirement:

The course is FREE, takes approximately 2.5 hours and can be taken in your jammies. As soon as you pass the test, your completion is automatically uploaded to your NAR record that you have met the 2012 requirement. Note that this free online course does NOT count toward your Continuing Education with the NC Real Estate Commission.

  • OPTION 2: Take the course with live instructor from "approved" provider.

GCHAR will be offering FOUR Code of Ethics elective classes in the second half of 2012. If you opt to take this class with us, then you will complete your Code of Ethics requirement and have an Elective class for NCREC. CLICK HERE to view the Continuing Education schedule.

What if a REALTOR® doesn't meet the training requirement on time?

Failure to meet the requirement is a violation of a membership requirement and results in suspension of membership until the requirement is met. The consequences of suspension of a REALTOR® for failing to meet the training requirement will be treated the same as suspension for violating any other membership duty as defined in The Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual, in relevant part, "...suspension of membership rights and privileges and denial of Board services...on terms and conditions expressly stated...including, but not limited to, use of the terms REALTOR® and REALTOR-Associate®..."

Have YOU completed your COE requirement? A list will be sent to members who HAVE NOT completed their Code of Ethics training for this quadrennial cycle the first of August.
