Lending and Appraisal Member Meeting

 

 

At the September Member Meeting, our wonderful members suggested a fabulous array of educational topics for future meetings.  We are very happy to announce the Education Committee lost no time investigating possible speakers and found funds to present one last member meeting in 2011.  On October 31st representatives from the Triangle Lenders Association and Mel Black with the Appraisal Council will be presenting much needed information about the changes in lending practices and the new Fannie Mae appraisal laws. 

 

Featured speakers will be MEL BLACK (Attorney at Law), ANNE WATSON (current president of TMLA, LEON SCHEARER (American Real Estate and Appraisal Company) and JOHN DEHART (of Wells Fargo)

 

The meeting will be held at ExtraOrdinary Ventures on October 31st. Lunch will begin at 11:30 and the meeting will begin at 12:00.

News from NAR

 

 

Pending home sales slipped in August with a mixed regional performance but are higher than a year ago, according to the National Association of Realtors®.

 

The Pending Home Sales Index,* a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings, declined 1.2 percent to 88.6 in August from 89.7 in July but is 7.7 percent above August 2010 when it stood at 82.3. The data reflects contracts but not closings.

EmPOWERment is celebrating 15 years of community service!

 

Please plan to attend the 8th Annual Build-A-Home Fundraiser on Saturday November 5th.

 

This will be an Evening of Jazz at the Sheraton Hotel (One Europa Drive, Chapel Hill). 

 

The invited Keynote Speaker  is the Honorable Shaun Donovan - Secretary of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

 

There will be a reception with Secretary Donovan from 5:30 to 6:30 and a Gala Awards Dinner from 6:30 to 9pm.

Complete your elective C.E. requirement for 2011-12 for just $40!  The Association is offering the Ethics class By The Book, taught by Debbie Long at a discounted rate -- just $40 -- Class will be from 12:30 to 4:30pm at the Association office. BY THE BOOK includes topics of discussion like Anti-Trust, RESPA, Fair Housing, and NCREC Rules. This course also fulfills the NAR Mandatory Code of Ethics requirement.

The location for the last 2011 BUZZ (Brokers Unwinding with Zest and Zeal) will be at Cinco de Mayo at 1502 East Franklin Street, from 5 to 7pm. No need to register or sign up - Just come on out and network with your fellow agents and have some great appetizers!  

 

  • November 9, 12pm to 1pm -  Lunch 'n Learn featuring George Smart - Director of Triangle Modernist Houses 

Bring a bag lunch for yourself and learn something valuable! George Smart, founder and director of the award-winning non-profit Triangle Modernist Houses (TMH), will present "Mayberry Modernism: North Carolina's Modernist Legacy". Mayberry Modernism showcases the state's surprisingly large collection of Modernist residences from the 1950s through today, particularly those in the Triangle region. The Triangle has the third largest concentration of Modernist houses in the nation, bested only by Los Angeles and Chicago. Smart's presentation includes photographs over 50 award-winning homes from the 1950's through today.  

  • November 17 - Installation and Awards Banquet 

So maybe we won't have the drama of Two and A Half Men's Charlie Sheen meeting his replacement Ashton Kutcher on the red carpet, but we will have drama!  And the best dressed women. And fabulous entertainment.  And delicious food.  And recognition with outstanding awards. Make plans to join us on November 17 from 5-7:30pm at the Sheraton for our annual Installation and Awards Banquet with an Emmy theme. Recognizing the impact the economy has on our membership, we are once again keeping the cost to attend low at just $15/person for members and $20 non-members.
