Wachovia Layoffs to Affect Large Portion of US
Wachovia's decision at the end of July to eliminate nearly 11,000 jobs, 70% of which were mortgage related, is likely to impact a large percentage of the nation. The fourth largest bank in the US has operations in 21 states, predominately in the South and Mid-Atlantic regions, but extending west from Texas to California and North to New York and Illinois.

One finance expert at UNC-Charlotte anticipates that almost 4,000 job cuts will come from the Greater Charlotte area. Other known layoffs at this time, although minimal, are expected to be in San Antonio, TX and Pensacola, FL.
