2. NY Faith & Justice Joins the NY State Interfaith Network for Immigration Reform.
Why? Families across New York City are being torn apart by sweeping raids in the name of the law. As a result, demoralized and helpless human beings are sinking deep into economic, social, and spiritual poverty. Jesus says, "Let no one put asunder what God has joined together" and "I was an immigrant and you welcomed me... What you did to the least of these, you did to me."  Watch the inaugural press conference on NY1 here!  The next day, President Obama announced his intent to make comprehensive Immigration Reform a top priority in his first year!

Are you a South Bronx Community Leader?  You are invited to come and preview a process that can lead to real change for our communities.

In February/March 2009, 15 Police officers and 30 community members came together for five weeks of facilitated small group dialogues.  The dialogues led to mutual understanding and shared solutions to reduce violence in our communities.  


South Bronx Conversations for Change will aim to reach 500 community members and police officers this fall.  Come May 6th to preview the process.  Consider becoming a partnering organizer for change!

The Conversations for Change dialogue curriculum was developed by Everyday Democracy.  The initiative is co-sponsored by NY Faith & Justice, Walker Memorial Baptist Church, Latino Pastoral Action Center, Presbytery of NYC-PCUSA, South Bronx Ecumenical Coalition, Hostos Community College, and the NYPD.

Mr. Willie Baptist is a formerly homeless father who serves as the Scholar-in-Residence for the Poverty Initiative at Union Theological Seminary.  Co-Coordinator of the University of the Poor, Mr. Baptist is also responsible for the Poverty Scholars Program where he trains dozens of low-income leaders to become Scholars-in-Residence for other seminaries, universities, and religious institutions.
