2009 Countdown #2 Just Faith
|
Greetings!
What is faith?
Faith adds action to belief.
Faith is knowing that you know that you know that what you hope for will come to pass some day... and structuring your life around that hope.
Faith is born in secret, but never stays there.
Faith is holding on...
Faith is getting out of bed...
Faith is taking one more step...
Faith requires an object of its affection.
What is justice?
Justice is making things right.
Justice is staring into the face of oppression and saying "No."
Justice is learning about inequities in education, health care, food distribution, toxic clean-ups, and incarceration and declaring: "Not on our watch."
Justice is born in public, but is always conceived in the imagination.
Justice is good news for ones whose hands are slipping..
Justice is liberty for ones with backs pressed against walls...
In the end, justice is grace to all.
To work for justice requires faith.
The partners of NY Faith & Justice do what we do because of our faith. We dare to believe what Isaiah said would come to pass and what Jesus said began with him; the crying ones, the incarcerated ones, the oppressed ones, the broken-hearted ones, the impoverished ones, the ones with their backs pushed up against the wall - they will be called "Oaks of justice"! They will transform our city and rebuild our broken Wall Street! And their transformation will be grace to us all.
Our work requires faith and God has fueled ours!
Over the past two weeks, we have stood in awe as you have demonstrated your faith by giving/pledging a total of $18,200 of the $20,000 needed to help keep NY Faith & Justice moving forward in 2009! Most of these donations came in as $50-$100 contributions! In addition, several churches and organizations have begun to formalize their partnership with NYFJ!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you.
We are humbled by your faith and your commitment to "make things right" in our city. Your audacity to hope and to structure your lives around that hope is infectious and inspiring. We honor you!
Now, I'm going to say it one last time. We have not reached the finish line. We have one day left to raise the remaining $1,800 needed to continue the work into 2009.
If you have not yet made a contribution, would you consider donating $50, $100, $500, or $1000 today. (Don't forget, if you're broke right now, you can set up automatic monthly payments as low as $5 per month!)
If you made a pledge and haven't had the chance to send your gift, please take a moment and click here to give online now.
If you prefer to mail your gift, please make all checks payable to "FCNY". Write "NY Faith and Justice" in the memo line and send it directly to our fiscal sponsor at:
