2009 Countdown #3 Just Visions
|
Greetings!
It was 10pm.
Only one hour before, I stood on a stage at NYU and spoke on "Shalom and Hunger" for a Thanksgiving event sponsored by all the Christian groups at NYU. Now I stood across the street, talking with my new friend "Mark".
"You know that picture you showed," Mark asked. "The one of the people rummaging for food on the garbage heap in Haiti?" He trailed off...
I prodded, "Yes...?"
"I've seen that. I've been there," he trailed off again... His eyes - distant. His countenance - flat.
Mark is called to tell the stories of the oppressed through photography. His call has taken him across the world to the poorest of the poor in central Mexico, to civilians caught in the cross-fire of the Iraq war, to the "garbage people" of Egypt and so on. Now Mark lives in New York City and he has caught the vision of NY Faith & Justice.
We got to dreaming: What if we took the next year to collaborate with NYFJ's organizational partners to make poverty personal for New Yorkers through the development of an exhibit and corresponding book revealing the breadth, depth, and personal impact of poverty in New York City today?
Please give to NY Faith & Justice today to help this just vision become reality!
