Top 12 NY Faith & Justice Highlights from 2007!
- 100
people at the Prayer Vigil Against
Violence prayed for 100 people attending the South Bronx Public Forum Against
Violence on January 17.
10 people walk forward at the end of the forum and sign up for the
Coalition Against Violence.
- At
the first Coalition meeting, members declare, "We want to build bridges of understanding
between the police and the community."
Two pilot-conversations have taken place so far!
- We
started the year with 12 core members.
Met a bunch more at The Sojourners Pentecost Conference in
June. Today we have 40 core
members!
- "This
is the
most diverse group I've ever seen,"
said Jim Wallis at our September 26 Launch Celebration where 300 people attended
and committed to follow Christ, unite the church and end poverty in New
York City!
- Seeing
88 people Stand Up Against Poverty
on October 16, then hearing stories of how our Stand Up event was a
catalyst for several other groups around the city who stood up Against
Poverty including a group of Chinese Pastors in Queens and 1300 at Time
Square Church!
- Amazing
Partnerships with Churches and
Organizations across the city!
- Shane Claiborne, Willie Baptist, Obrey Hendricks and
others lit us up with vision and challenged us to see Jesus through the
eyes of the poor. Thank you, Suzana
Andrade for letting your vision become reality among us. Your risk blessed many.
- The
Isaiah Project! A small group gathered around the table each
week and got rocked by the words of Isaiah. Highlight? Seeing Sharon walk in with luggage. She's just gotten off a plane and came
straight to the study because she didn't want to miss it!
- Community
"becoming
oaks of righteousness" together on The Bridge! Thank you Peter
Heltzel for building The Bridge that brings us together each month to get
fired up and hear updates on God's work among us.
- An
amazing Advisory Board-highly
gifted, highly invested, and deeply appreciated!
- The
faith
of those who put their lives on the line, sacrificing money, time and
energy for the sake of God's glory in New York City.
- Jesus-The One
who redeems, restores and rebuilds broken cities as much as he redeems
broken lives.
Thank You!
