| Greetings!
Welcome 2010! Let this be the year we discover our dreams! I've written an ariticle below about my own intentions for the next decade, and I invite you to join me.
We also have highlighted a wonderful artist, Wilder Rich, who has kindly explained how she paints Keepsake Portraits. We've shown one below. I found this fascinating. What would you place on your desk for a Keepsake Portrait painting; what tells of the important things in your life?
We are gearing up to reveal our schedule for the next few months~ so watch for our announcement in your inbox soon! We have scheduled our premier meditation course (we give only a few times each year). This course has such a profound impact on our attendees lives! Give this gift to yourself. More on the dates in the Events section.
Check out our T-shirts! Join our tribe by walking with us in the Disney Princess Half Marathon and you will receive one free!! Or buy one of the Phoenix Center's beautiful shirts to show your support!!!
For those members living locally, we have hundreds of books, CD's, DVD movies, and audio books on all topics, but especially motivational, business, psychological, self-help, and spiritual growth.
And finally, thanks to all who are supporting us by volunteering at our events, here at the center, and spreading the word. A special thanks to Christine Bean, who has done so much to assist. (Our volunteers receive great benefits!)
Hang with us, join our Tribe and do let us hear from you!
Prosperously Yours,
Kasey J Claytor

What's Your Story?
~The image above is an example of clarity of purpose. It was used in a direct mail advertising campaign for a one person health insurance company. The copy talked about the agent's dedication to his clients. He ran his business as he flew his airplane. If his clients failed, he failed, just as if they were flying together. It was easy to tell the story in objects on a desk in the painting because the purpose was clear. When it comes to telling our own stories, it can be much more difficult. We just know too much. It is much easier to choose between symbolic objects. For example, when painting Keepsake pictures for the family of three sisters, we chose objects that pointed to each one's loves and personality. One sister was a florist who had a favorite rose. One loved butterflies. She always wore a butterfly pin and had traveled to South America to study butterflies. The third sister collected small ceramic shoes and had all her clothes custom made. Of course, there was much more to each of the sisters. But the simplicity of each painting kept the memory alive for their families. When we want to tell our own story or clarify a desire, simplicity is powerful. The way to reach that simplicity is through narrowing choices. As the decisions narrows, the story emerges. As many studies show, it is much easier to choose between two or three options than to pick one from many. The place to begin is with the largest choice. If you were to choose objects to put on your desk you might begin by choosing between past, present, or future. If you chose past, your objects might reflect what carries meaning for you that you want to remember and treasure. From the present is the story of who you have become and what you love today. A painting for the future might be a painting full of symbols, like a vision board, for where you want to go. Other either-or options might be career or family or symbolic colors like blue-yellow or red-green. Narrowing your choices between two options makes the process effective. Just remember that objects as symbols are only pointers to your truth. And when it is simple, it is beautiful.

"Future Slam" |
I didn't plan it ahead of time, but turning 50 created a swirl of activity and changes in my life. I wrote an article back then about the concept of "Future Slam" in which the future comes slamming into your present. We all have so many dreams and ideas of what we will be, do and have at some indistinct future point in time. I realized as my 50th birthday approached that the time had come. How much longer would I put off getting in shape, beginning my writing career, finding out what my true purpose is out in the world and becoming the highest version of me? I did indeed lose weight. I began writing, which turned into my first book of fiction; and I left the corporate world to open my own office that expressed my own values, and recommitted to an earnest path of self-growth. Now, as I near the next decade of my life I naturally am thinking, "What next?" How and what can I change that will bring me more joy and fulfillment? What haven't I done yet that is burning in my heart to do? As I gather the inspiration for my next decade I challenge you to do it with me. More than a New Year's Resolution, it is a deep intention toward the essence of things we want and how we want to 'be' in the world. Ask what the resultant emotion or state of mind a new car or home or partner or new career will bring in the end? What do we really desire? Is it ease, comfort, love, confidence, peace, joy, self-expression? Those things that I desired 10 years ago did indeed bring me more than what I asked on the surface. They brought me comfort, ease, confidence and more self-awareness. Consider who you are, really. What is important to you? Are your days filled with things you don't really care about? Are you filled with passion, ready to dive into your day? Are you in a job, relationship, social group, or any situation that doesn't speak to who you are inside; that doesn't hold the values that are in your heart? And be patient, wait for the inspiration. Notice what ideas make you strong. This will give you an important clue into which direction your life can take. You are a magnificent creation of God. You are in this world to let your brilliance shine forth and touch the rest of us. If your treasures lay uncovered and undiscovered, the whole world is less for it. Let this be the year you discover your authentic self and bring that to the world. Let's go forth into this new decade with unbridled enthusiasm, a heart filled with new courage, a backbone supple and full of strength, to lead and protect and be a shining example to all of how our gifts can grace this world and make it a better place-and others will know they can, too.
Loads of Love,

| Today's Financial Tip |

Q. Can one year's return on an investment tell you if that investment is desirable?
A. Not really. One year in an account that is invested in the stock market is not adequate to judge if it is a good investment or not. Did it over or under perform like accounts? Did it over or under perform the broader markets? A good test is not how well it does in one year in which the market rose, but how well it holds up long-term in difficult markets.
