Conscious Childraising: Talk and Seminar.

June 3rd-5th. London

Greetings!

"The responsibility of being with children as a teacher or parent, or simply as a friend or companion is literally a responsibility for the future of humankind" (Lee Lozowick).

For the first time in the UK, Brinda Callaghan, who currently lives in France and and is an internationally experienced facilitator, parent, grandparent, home-educator and much more, will be facilitating a workshop on "Conscious Childraising". The Singing Heart is about offering a range of high quality workshops that make the heart sing, and so its a great privilege to be the organiser for this workshop. I am sending you this heartfelt request to support this workshop; if it is not relevant to you personally, please  who could be interested;  parents, prospective parents, grandparents, educators, anyone involved in raising children who is interested in raising children consciously. Let's make it an outstandingly successful event!

Conscious Childraising:
Friday 3rd June: Evening Talk 4th-5th June: Weekend seminar in London.

This seminar is designed for parents, prospective parents, grandparents, and anyone involved in raising children. Unconsciously, a child will assimilate educational practices of his parents and teachers. Some of these practices are helping the child's positive development, others are detrimental. We all want to do our best as parents.  If we do not examine our own upbringing, we will inevitably reproduce the same patterns, whether we want to or not. Having access to a number of different perspectives will make it possible for you to immediately implement fresh and effective approaches with your children. In the longer term, this can pave the way to consciously establish an authentic relationship with your children which will be carried by mutual respect, joy, love, clarity and appreciation.

Examples of questions the seminar will address:

·        What did our own parents  say and do to us, that we see ourselves passing on to our children?  When and how do we need to break this repetition?

·        What is our model for kindness, generosity, compassion and hospitality?

·        How can we preserve our child's innocence, sense of self-esteem, and basic goodness?

·        Do you show an interest in what your child is interested in?

·        Are we able to recognize areas of lack of attention of various degrees in our relationships, and the resulting problems?

·        How much of our time and attention is given to technology, internet and consumerism? Are we able to find a balance with this?

·        How do we nourish a couple or other adult relationships when our child is requiring so much attention?

·        How can we adapt our life style to accommodate the importance of our presence for our children?

·        How to identify and harmonize the various parenting roles: being a father, being a mother, being parents together? Also, being a step-parent and single parent?

·        We all want to be the best possible parent. When confronted with reality, how do we deal with this expectation?

·        How to apprehend the turmoil linked with teenage years?

·        Importance of transition times with our children (morning, after school, meal times, bedtime, ...)

·        Why do children need boundaries? When and how?

After extensive travel in the South Pacific and South -East Asia she became involved in the natural birthing, breastfeeding and homeschooling movement in California.  Becoming a mother brought her into the deep consideration of how our children are educated and prepared to go into their lives. In this time she was involved with Montessori , Steiner and other alternative schools. Eventually she co-created Sonoma County Homeschoolers, a group of families dedicated to educating their children at home and supporting  families in the public school system.  For the past 25 years she has been living in community, has been in charge of a community school and continues to be directly involved in various educational projects.  She teaches Aikido to children and is trained as a fabric artist, loves cooking and has an appreciation for keeping traditional skills alive. She brings this creative approach into her work with children, through seminars and in life. Her intention is to inspire educational practices that will result in happy, healthy, confident and successful human beings.
