How are you doing? loving, hating or ignoring the seasonal madness? I highly recommend taking a few minutes alone or with friends, and just sitting in complete darkness for a few minutes. Switch all the lights off, draw the curtains, let yourself be still, relax, and sink into the darkness. We did this on the Solstice evening a couple of days ago, as part of an evening celebrating the longest night, the time when the sun is 'reborn', and this year, also coinciding with a full moon, and full moon eclipse. We went to the beach, felt the air, cold pebbles, salty water and hot fire (yes, we managed to light a fire!) and then joyfully sent up a sky lantern representing prayers and blessings for loved ones. Our evening finished with the darkness meditation, then the lighting of a magnificant arati lamp - a sort of candelabra with many small lamps consisting of ghee (clarified butter) and wicks which are lit, giving off a beautiful golden light, and buttery aroma. Whatever your spiritual path, or not, it is incredibly nourishing to spend time connecting with the darkness that is not always easy to find!. Also went for a fabulous moonlit woodland walk in the snow, which was so powdery that the air was full of sparkling crystals!. So, it can be quite simple, but can put things in perspective, slow us down, and help us connect with ourselves and our environment. Go for it!!
