Greetings!

Harvest Hill Farm is in the business of selling healthy food all year round.  During the warmer months we proudly offer native grown fruits and vegetables. As a retailer, the challenge is to be able to continue to sell vegetables and fruits that meet our homegrown standards throughout the year.

In the pursuit of a healthier you and healthier planet, we are very pleased to introduce our newest expansion, Harvest Hill Fruit and Produce. This addition has been created to fill the void in quality produce during the full twelve month cycle. We now offer a garden variety of tasty vegetables at our farm market on Rt. 11 and are delivering wholesale to independent grocery stores and restaurants.

In the coming months we will increase the selection at our market as we update our floor plan. Please plan to visit and share your comments and requests as we expand our assortment.

Yours truly,
                                  Kathie and Peter Bolduc

Save $60 a Week and the Planet

Here are some tips that not only save you money but also can save energy, water and reduce waste. The full article can be found in the premier issue of The Green Guide, Spring 2008. http://www.thegreenguide.com/magazine/

Switch from paper napkins to cloth
At two cents for each napkin, a family could save $1.68 per week.

Turn down the thermostat
Turn it down if you are going to be out of the house for more than an hour and at night when you're under the covers. For natural gas you can save $2.94 per week.

Plan your meals so you have less waste
The average American household tosses 14% of its food purchases because food spoils or we cook too much and toss the leftovers. With better planning a family could save $11.35 per week.

Stay home and cook
A basic chicken entrée for four people at an Applebee's restaurant is around $45.96. The same meal cooked at home would be around $20.25. That's a savings of $25.71

Re-portion your plate
Cook a vegetarian meal one night a week or serve smaller portions of meat and add more produce, soy and grains. By eliminating just 4 ounces of meet, one egg and one ounce of cheese from each family member's diet and you'll save $14.87 (Though you may want to spend a portion of the savings for meat and eggs that have been raised in the healthiest, most humane ways.)

Shorten your shower
If everyone in your family shortens the time it takes to shower by 2 minutes you could save an additional $2.46 per week.

Plan your errands
By planning your errands you could save anywhere from 15 to 29 miles (depending on the car). That would be a savings of at least $3.00 per week.

Maple LeafRECIPE of the MONTH

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Stuffed cabbage rolls with ground beef and seasonings, along with cheese and tomato juice.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 12 large cabbage leaves
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon ground sage
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2/3 cup fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup water, broth, or tomato juice
  • 6 strips bacon

PREPARATION:

Cook cabbage leaves in boiling, salted water until tender and flexible, about 5 minutes. Combine ground beef, onion, sage, cheese, bread crumbs, milk, and salt. Place a large spoonful of meat mixture on each cabbage leaf; roll up, tucking ends inside to seal meat in. Secure with toothpicks. Place in baking dish and add 1 cup water, broth or tomato juice. Cover rolls with bacon strips and bake at 350° for 45 to 55 minutes. Serves 6.
