Keynote Speakers:
This year we are especially excited to welcome Marian Wright Edelaann, Founder/President of the Children's Defense Fund, as the closing keynote speaker. Under her leadership, CDF has become the nation's strongest voice for children and families. The Children's Defense Fund's Leave No Child BehindŽ mission is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.
Mrs. Edelman, a graduate of Spelman College and Yale Law School, began her career in the mid-60s when, as the first black woman admitted to the Mississippi Bar, she directed the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund office in Jackson, Mississippi. In l968, she moved to Washington, D.C., as counsel for the Poor People's Campaign that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. began organizing before his death. She founded the Washington Research Project, a public interest law firm and the parent body of the Children's Defense Fund. For two years she served as the Director of the Center for Law and Education at Harvard University and in l973 began CDF.

Foundation Accepting Applications for Nonprofit Leader Certificate Program
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina and Columbia College are accepting applications for the Nonprofit Leadership & Innovation Certificate Program, an expansion of their graduate level course. The certificate program is open to nonprofit leaders in South Carolina, and participants will receive nine SACS accredited graduate-level hours and a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership & Innovation.
With monthly classes from August 2010 through August 2011, the certificate program will provide nonprofit leaders the opportunity to enhance knowledge, skills and frameworks to lead nonprofit organizations in an ever-changing diverse society.
The Foundation will cover the cost of tuition for each student accepted and enrolled in to the Nonprofit Leadership & Innovation Certificate Program. Nonprofit leaders may obtain more information and an application from the Foundation's Web site. Completed applications and official college transcripts are due to the Foundation by May 31, 2010. |
RTRworks! Project
ETR Associates is looking for 250 high school teachers (grades 8 - 12) throughout the USA to teach Reducing the Risk: Building Skills to Prevent Pregnancy, STD & HIV (RTR)in their classrooms. The RTRworks! Project is being conducted by ETR Associates and Monarch Media, Inc. and is funded by the National Institute on Mental Health (NIMH.) Participating educators will receive $450 plus $200 worth of curriculum materials

Grants AvailableGeorgia-Pacific Foundation The Georgia-Pacific Foundation supports a wide range of organizations that improve the quality of life in communities where Georgia-Pacific operates, and where company employees live and work. The Foundation has identified the following key investment areas: education, including job readiness and literacy; community investment, including affordable housing and cultural programs; environment, including resource conservation and clean air/clean water; and entrepreneurship, especially among youth, women, and minorities.
