This 2-Day "Teaching Techniques Workshop" is an interactive, small group training that introduces participants tot he basic principles and practices of implementing science based approaches to sexuality education.

WHY: To celebrate Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month 

WHAT: Sign up for Blue Jeans for Teens and allow your staff members to wear their favorite pair of jeans for just $5 a day or $20 a week.  All proceeds benefit the SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.  The Campaign will supply stickers for your employees who participate.

The Buzz: i Know

i know
is a new social media effort of CDC's Act Against AIDS campaign, to combat HIV among African American young adults. i know is designed to encourage young African American men and women aged 18-24 to talk openly and often about HIV/AIDS with their peers, partners, and families, online and off. i know will disseminate HIV prevention information through several social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and text messages aimed at fostering conversations about HIV/AIDS among young African Americans.

National Campaign to Host Webinar on Effective Programs for Latino Youth
Due to the cancellation of our Latino Roundtable, we strongly encourage everyone to join The National Campaign for a webinar discussion about replicating effective and promising teen pregnancy prevention programs for Latino youth. The call will focus on the following questions:

  • What programs have the best evidence of success among
    Latino youth?
  • How do I select a program that's the right fit for my community?
  • What do we know in general about strategies and messages on pregnancy prevention that resonate with Latino youth?

Florence Crittenton Launches New Website
Located
in downtown Charleston, Florence Crittenton Programs have been serving the entire state of South Carolina for 113 years. The center provides education, counseling services, medical care, social support, and a safe haven for young pregnant and parenting mothers in need. After completing the program, clients have the skills to become responsible parents and members of the community.

Reducing Unintended Pregnancies Can Ease State's Woes
Free Times -The Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive-health think tank, recently released new data about nationwide teen pregnancy rates. The findings reaffirm what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have reported: Teen pregnancies are up.

Georgia-Pacific Foundation
The Georgia-Pacific Foundation supports a wide range of organizations that improve the quality of life in communities where Georgia-Pacific operates, and where company employees live and work. The Foundation has identified the following key investment areas: education, including job readiness and literacy; community investment, including affordable housing and cultural programs; environment, including resource conservation and clean air/clean water; and entrepreneurship, especially among youth, women, and minorities. Grants generally range from $1,000 to $5,000. Grant applications will be accepted between January 1 and October 31, 2010. Visit the company's website to take the required online eligibility survey.

2010 Make a Powerful Difference Contest
The makers of Pine-Sol cleaners have launched the 2010 Make a Powerful Difference Contest, which will award grants online to women who are helping improve their communities and are making extraordinary change. One grand-prize winner will receive $10,000 to make a difference for their community or cause, while an additional nine finalists will each receive $1,000 to help support their initiatives. Applications are due by March 22.

I Wanna Know
The I Wanna Know website addresses the issues of sexual health and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This website is a great STI 101 resource for providers, parents, and teens. A great feature is the For PARENTS section which provides tools to help foster parent-child communication. This website was developed by The American Social Health Association (ASHA), a trusted, non-profit organization that had been working to improve sexual health outcomes since 1914.
