Online Learning Center Launches

The SC Campaign is thrilled to welcome you to our newest
capacity-building tool! The Online Learning Center (OLC) is the latest
innovation in professional development and it was designed with
adolescent health professionals of varying experience levels in mind.
Why should you access it?
- It's FREE!
- It's available 24/7 from the comfort of your home or office.
- It will save you time. Access webinars, interactive PDFs and links to both internal resources at the Campaign and external resources from institutions across the country.
- It's necessary. The OLC will constantly be updated to reflect the field's best practices.
As you
browse, the simple purpose of the OLC should reveal itself: to
better equip individuals, groups, and organizations to meet the needs
of young people as we all strive to reduce the rate of adolescent
pregnancy. Once you have had the chance to explore the OLC, be sure to tell us what you think. The site will constantly be updated and we want to make sure we are meeting your needs and providing you with new and effective resources.

Research Corner Mass Media as an HIV-Prevention Strategy: Using
Culturally Sensitive Messages to Reduce HIV-Associated Sexual Behavior
of At-Risk African American Youth The evidence base and theoretical frameworks for mass media HIV-prevention campaigns in the United States are not well-developed.We describe an intervention approach using culturally sensitive mass media messages to enhance protective beliefs and behavior of African American adolescents at risk for HIV. This approach exploits the potential that mass media messages have, not only to reach a large segment of the adolescent population and thereby support normative change, but also to engage the most vulnerable segments of this audience to reduce HIV-associated risk behaviors. The results from an ongoing HIV-prevention trial implemented in 2 medium-sized cities in the United States illustrate the effectiveness of this intervention approach.
