How Grand Rapids became a member
Since Grand Rapids, Michigan is only a two-hour drive from Motown, I invited the leaders of its orchestra volunteer group to join us for our conference this past spring. Four ladies came, learned and enjoyed, according to an email from Lori Curley, president: Thank you so much for getting us involved in AMSOV. We learned so much at the conference and are looking forward to seeing you again (at the conference) in Texas. In response to my request for permission to quote her, Lori wrote: You may certainly quote me - the GR ladies are thrilled to be part of AMSOV!
I look forward to hearing from you and to sharing with you all the helpful and exciting news that we hear from our volunteers all over the US and Canada. Best wishes for an enjoyable and successful season of music,
Marjorie Saulson AMSOV President

Atlanta Symphony Associates
The Atlanta Symphony Associates had an extraordinary year in spite of all the economic challenges. ASA projects raised $1,029,719 and Annual Fund contributions from ASA members totaled $323,505, a substantial increase in spite of an unpredictable year. This is a testimony to the importance of our ASO, the support of our members and the leadership of Camille Yow, annual fund chair. Contact ASA President Suzy Wasserman for fundraising details.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Music Director Robert Spano, also had an outstanding year. The ASO and Chorus performed at Carnegie Hall for the twentieth time. The ASO was nominated for 2 Grammy awards and the Chorus performed with Donald Runnicles in Berlin with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. |

Los Angeles Philharmonic Affiliates Contribute Over $1 Million Through Fundraising
The 900-member Los Angeles Philharmonic Affiliates, comprised of 16 committees affiliated with the 106-member Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, support the orchestra as well as the youth education and community outreach programs of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. Affiliates contribute over $1 million to the Los Angeles Philharmonic's $95 million budget. An all-Affiliates-sponsored fundraiser is the Opening Night Concert and Dinner package offered in October when the concert season launches.
The Affiliates purchase a block of tickets in the Frank Gehry-designed 2,265-seat Walt Disney Concert Hall, and after the concert, stroll to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for a buffet dinner in The Fifth Floor dining area overlooking the night-lighted Jacques Lipchitz-designed "Peace on Earth" sculpture and fountain.
Encore, comprised of past Affiliate committee presidents, sponsors an Orchestra Party each winter honoring the orchestra members. The event is a cocktail party followed by dinner and offers Affiliates an opportunity to socialize with orchestra members.
At the Affiliates Spring Celebration, Annual Meeting, and Luncheon held in Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Affiliates invite the orchestra members who have donated their services by performing at Affiliate committees. They are seated, interspersed among the Affiliates at the luncheon tables. |

Orchestre symphonique de Montréal Fundraising
We launched the OSM 2010 calendar in the presence of our artistic director, Maestro Kent Nagano on September 13. The calendar is made of 13 paintings by a Québec painter, Mrs Louise Lachance Legault. Volunteers were involved in its preparation and over 1000 copies were sold the first month!
Final preparations for the yearly OSM Competition are underway. This year we feature piano and percussion and 66 applications (55 piano and 11 percussion) have been received. A paid coordinator supports this event, but most of the secretarial work and the day-to-day running of the Competition is completed by volunteers. The competition will be held November 18 through 21.
