Mentors, Social Entrepreneurs & Investors Discussing
Social Impact
IVN Round Table 2011
Date: June 2011
The gap between traditional nonprofit organizations to traditional for-profits businesses has been slowly filled by a range of hybrid ventures. These hybrids include (i) nonprofit organizations with income generating activities and (ii) social businesses - social mission driven businesses whose revenues are channeled back into the business to achieve their social purpose. These hybrid ventures do not clearly fit within the three traditional sectors (government, business or non-profit), yet they are gaining in prominence, raising a series of questions for entrepreneurs and policymakers that we would like to address in IVN's 2011 round table:
To what extent can we look to market forces and entrepreneurship to help resolve social problems and achieve public goals? Are achieving social objectives a realistic goal in light of the commitment of for-profit business? What role does and should the government play in encouraging or enabling social entrepreneurs in this emerging sector to achieve important policy goals? |
