7:30pm
We all live with multiple identities--gender and race, religion and ability-- we are full and complex people. How do we experience our varied positions, and how can we support one another as we travel different paths? Join guest facilitators Cary Gabriel Costello and Beta Schaefer for an interactive evening designed to create connections, spark insights, and encourage discussion.

Cary Gabriel Costello and Beta Schaefer Cary and Beta are intersexed partners engaged in a do-si-do of gender transitions. Cary was female assigned at birth and is traveling maleward, while Beta was male assigned at birth and is moving to the female side of the street. Cary teaches sociology and does research on avatars in Second Life, while Beta runs an internet radio station and virtual dance club, and serves as a techfae-at-large. Location: Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, 315 W. Court Street, Milwaukee, WI.

Therapists Meet 'n' Greet |
|
September 18, 2009
Friday 7:00pm
Have you wanted to be able to learn more about a therapist before stepping through their door? Would you like the opportunity to ask questions of multiple therapists - their approach, philosophy, adherence to the Standards of Care, or any number of other issues? Maybe you are just curious to meet some of the key therapists everyone in our community is talking about - even if you aren't looking for a therapist. Join FORGE and a panel of therapists from Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago for an evening of questions, exploration, answers, and insight. Confirmed therapists include:
Each therapist will make a brief introductory comment about their practice. Following introductions, FORGE facilitators will have a set of moderated questions for the panel, giving time for each therapist to respond. After gathering some initial information through introductions and FORGE-asked questions, attendees will have plenty of time to ask their own questions - which can be anonymous (via writing) or oral. Location: Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, 315 W. Court Street, Milwaukee, WI.

LGBT Cultural Competency Training for Professionals
FORGE hosted two all day trainings (August 22 and August 26, 2009) for professionals who serve victims of crime to increase their awareness of LGBT issues and needs in seeking services. We are pleased to report that both days were engaging, dynamic, and allowed providers to learn new concepts, network with new people, and experientially connect to everyday joys and challenges of LGBT individuals.
Meditation with Kara Luening
Kara Luening offered a beautiful guided meditation on August 10, 2009. Participants were moved by the simplicity that also contained amazing depth. If you missed this event, Kara is interested in scheduling another meditation later this fall. Stay tuned.
Remembering Gwen
Many of you attended the "Remembering Gwen" celebration on August 1, 2009. FORGE is grateful for all of you who came to support Gwen's surviving spouse, Greg, and to support each other through words, hugs, smiles and tears.
August's Social Support meeting
Against a Trans Narrative was the feature event for the August 1, 2009 social support meeting. Although we had some initial technical difficulties with low volume, it was wonderful to have Milwaukee's first screening of Jules Rosskam's latest film. The discussion that followed addressed some tough (and sometimes heated) issues around identity, including race, age, FTM connection (or disconnection) to the lesbian community, class, the usefulness (or not) of self- or other-defined labels, concepts surrounding privilege (male and other), partnership status and desire for trans bodies, and the intersection between personal and political choices.

| What do the symbols mean?? |
|
|
Although everyone is welcome at any FORGE meeting, some meetings are designed with particular audiences in mind. These symbols indicate the focus of particular events and meetings.
Geared towards the entire transgender/gender non-conforming community and SOFFAs
Geared towards trans-masculine folks and SOFFAs
Reverse Inclusion: A trans+/SOFFA organization is hosting an event that welcomes the broader LGBTQIA (and straight) community. | |
