FRIDAY, July 10, 2009
7:30pm
Maybe you think only MTFs sell sex to survive. Maybe you believe silicone is only for those who cannot afford hormones or surgery. Maybe you are under the assumption that people who have insurance would never buy hormones on the street, from friends or off the internet. You might be surprised to learn how many people in our community - people of all ages, races, gender vectors, sexual orientations, economic levels, backgrounds, employment status', and other demographic diversities - are finding ways to survive and create the body they want to live in. Our discussion will not focus on "right" or "wrong" - but will delve into some of the reasons people take risks (calculated for some, unknown for others) and what, exactly, those risks are. What are some of the reasons people make the choices they do? How can we all make the most informed choices about our financial, emotional, physical, spiritual health? How can we, as a community, understand and support each, even though we may make different decisions. Join FORGE on July 10, 2009 (-- yes, that's a Friday --), for a respectful discussion and engaging conversation. Location: MilwaukeeLGBTCommunity Center, 315 W. Court Street, Milwaukee, WI For more information, email tgwarrior@forge-forward.org or call 414-559-2123.

Fundraiser - Thank you! |
|
|
Thank you to all of you who came out to Bakers Square on Sunday, June 28, 2009. FORGE, Lesbian Alliance, Metropolitan Community Church, The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, and SAGE appreciate the wonderful community feel created by so many of us "taking over" Baker's Square -- and, of course, we appreciate that by your eating, it raised funds for the work our organizations do every day to serve our community. Thank you!

GENDER OUTLAWS: THE NEXT GENERATION
Kate Bornstein & S Bear Bergman, eds
Deadline: 1 September 2009
"In the fifteen years since the release of Gender Outlaw, transgender narratives have made their way into cultural locations from the margins to the mainstream and back again. Today's trannies and other sex/gender radicals are writing a radically new world into being. GENDER OUTLAWS: THE NEXT GENERATION (Seal Press) will collect and contextualize the work of this generation's most forward-thinking trans/genderqueer voices-new voices from the stage, on the streets, in the workplace, in the bedroom, and on the pages and websites of the world's most respected mainstream news sources. Edited by that ol' original Gender Outlaw herself, Kate Bornstein and writer, raconteur, and theater artist S. Bear Bergman, GENDER OUTLAWS: THE NEXT GENERATION will include essays, commentary, comic art and conversation from a diverse a group of trans-spectrum people who live and believe in barrier-breaking lives." | What do the symbols mean?? |
|
|
Although everyone is welcome at any FORGE meeting, some meetings are designed with particular audiences in mind. These symbols indicate the focus of particular events and meetings.
Geared towards the entire transgender/gender non-conforming community and SOFFAs
Geared towards trans-masculine folks and SOFFAs
Reverse Inclusion: A trans+/SOFFA organization is hosting an event that welcomes the broader LGBTQIA (and straight) community. | |
