JULY 2010
Greetings!
Enjoy your summer in the Kenosha Area! Here is helpful news you can use as you plan your leisure time. As always, this is just a sampling of everything the Kenosha Area has to offer. Visit our web site for more fun - and affordable - ideas! |
Renovated ATV Trail
Ride the newly renovated ATV and dirt bike trail at Richard Bong State Recreation Area! This trail is the only ATV trail in southeast Wisconsin consisting of three connected loops, according to John R. Meyer, the Park Manager. Loop 1 (about 4 miles long) was renovated bringing total trail mileage at the park to about 9 miles. Loop 1 now has challenge routes allowing a rider the options to go over or through managed water features, log routes, and rock crawls. Please note, Loop 2 is still undergoing work into next year and will periodically be closed (and therefore Loop 3 as well).

New Public Art
Stop by to take a photo with the new 17-foot stainless steel sculpture "Full Sail" at Union Park (46th St. and 7th Ave.). Designed by sculptor Bruce Niemi, the statue is on loan for two years. This is only the first in what is expected to be a series of public art pieces at this location. A new world-class sculpture piece will be placed on exhibit every two years as part of the KUPP (Kenosha Union Park Project) Sculpture Lease Program. According to the sculptor, "Full Sail" represents adventure and exploration. Public art is not new to the Kenosha Area. More pieces can be found in HarborPark along the Electric Streetcar route, as well as in our National Register Historic Districts, and at more locations.

Art, Amour, and Armor
Bristol Renaissance Faire producers are describing it as a "Triple-A" summer - art, amour and armor at the 23rd annual Faire, which opens July 10th for nine weekends. The arrival of Queen Elizabeth's final and arguably most ardent suitor in the British hamlet of Bristol will set the stage for a season of romance where love is in the Faire! As you explore 16th Century arts, games, rides, food and music, plan to see many more newcomers along the colorful cast of characters, including the Bristol Census Taker and the resident Kissing Wench. If live action fantasy-play catches your fancy, take part in Bristol's RenQuest.
