Call for Papers & Posters
5th National Advanced Practice Neonatal Nurses Conference Podium and Poster Presentations
The Academy invites poster and podium presentations of 15-20 minutes in length on the following topics:
- Ventilation: How do you ventilate very low birth weight infants to optimize lung volume and prevent lung injury?
- Nutrition: How do you feed LBW infants?
Poster presentations relevant to the conference theme of examining current practice for advanced practice nurses are also welcome. Applications can be found at neonatalnetwork.com and are due February 23, 2008.

For each issue, participants earn 0.5-1 CE credits. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is a federal agency that conducts and supports public health activities in the United States. Since July 1, 1946, the CDC strives to "protect the health of all people through promotion, prevention, and preparedness." Their website has a wealth of information and is worth visiting. Sign up for their e-mail alerts and receive the latest information on diseases and conditions, emergency preparedness, environmental health, healthy living, workplace safety, and more. Vaccine Alerts and Updates
- On December 13, 2007, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recalled the monovalent Hib vaccine and the Hib/hepatitis B vaccine as Merck & Co could not assure sterility.
- On December 28, the CDC issued interim recommendations for use of the Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) conjugate vaccines. Click here to view these recommendations.
- The updated American Academy of Pediatrics immunization schedule and new catch-up schedule for infants to adolescents was published in the January issue of Pediatrics (January 2008; 121: 219-220).

The Foundation for Neonatal Research and Education (FNRE)
FNRE is a nonprofit organization that offers scholarships and grants "to prepare neonatal nurses for the future by strengthening nursing knowledge and practice." The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association Neonatal Resuscitation Program The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Section on Perinatal Medicine invites health professionals with an interest in neonatal resuscitation to submit a proposal for up to $25,000 through the 2008 NRP Research Grant.
