What does the phrase Ecological Intelligence mean to you? Other than being the title of a great new book, it is a phrase that should piece together, the power and impact we have as individual consumers. How many times have you considered what it took to manufacture the jeans you are wearing, or your new yoga mat? Purchasing without thinking is an ignorance we cannot afford. For instance, when you purchase a yoga mat from our boutique, you are assured your new Jade mat is constructed of natural rubber a renewable resource, containing no PVC or ozone depleting substances. Jade's commitment to the environment goes beyond just making eco-friendly products. Jade plants a tree for EVERY mat sold. This is a company I am happy to align my energy with. Every choice we make when we spend our hard earned money, should be an informed choice. Purchasing sustainable, healthier, humane products resonates with a yogic lifestyle. Might I add, buying yoga products from the boutique supports this effort. So, I thank each one of you who purchase your clothing, books, mats and related yoga products in our boutique. Your purchases help support Ecological Intelligence and your yoga studio. Look for Daniel Golman's new book in the boutique, to learn more about the choices you make. In addition goodguide.com is a wonderful resource to check. All components of a products life are taken in to consideration and then given a rating. The Good Guide features over 65,000 foods, toys, personal care, & household products. When we are aware of our buying choices, we become participants in shaping the future, in a way that aligns with our yogic values.

 SIDE PLANK
 Vashistasana/Visvamistrasana

Logo - The Haven YOGA Same pose, two different names used by either B.K.S. Iyengar and Pathabhi Jois. Regardless of which name is used, the Side Plank is an advanced posture found in the third series Ashtanga practice. This pose is great to strengthen the whole core of the body. Aside from the benefits for the back and abdominal region, Side Plank promotes wrist, arm and shoulder stability if done properly. To gain the benefits of side plank it is important to align the hand directly under the shoulder and keep the energy of the arms extending away from one another. The extension through the chest vertically is an important part of keeping the body horizontal. As you move in to the pose, feel your tush tuck and your bandhas and or lower belly engage and pull inward. Then begin to feel the body come alive with energy from the feet to the top of the head. When done properly, side plank can be a very natural and calm place to be.
