Having returned from our 4th annual retreat to Costa
Rica, I am
convinced, yoga brings the individual to
a place of spiritual awakening. It is surprising to me
the effects of the retreat experience are fleeting to
some. I believe we can attain spiritual awakening
anywhere and at anytime. I believe as Patanjali said
the effects of yoga do not wain but are consistent and
constant when the practice is for a long time and with
consistency. So, being able to replicate the retreat
experience
does not require daily spa treatments or circus feats.
The practice only requires your dedication to the
fundamentals of a yogic lifestyle. I offer my top ten
from the Costa Rica retreat to help bring the mind to a
space that cultivates spiritual awakening, anywhere,
anytime.
#1. Believe in Goodness. When we believe in
goodness there is no fear, hate, sickness or greed.
Only love exists. As we begin to believe in goodness,
healing follows.
#2. Release Expectations. Unrealized expectations
create suffering.
#3. Allow yourself to be open to new experiences.
Change can only occur if we forge new pathways.
#4. All Things change. Malleability is part of the yogic
mindset.
#5. Enlightenment is not an individual experience.
See this as a way to build new relationships, not as a
way to build cliques. Go out of your circle and invite
someone in to your circle.
#6. Understand the importance of purification in the
transformation process. Abstain from practices which
do
not cultivate a satvic state of being.
#7. Choose to see the cup as half full. A positive
attitude goes a long way in creating the reality you
deserve.
#8. Trust.
#9. Think before you speak. Realize the destructive
force of gossip and leave it behind .
#10. Honor the opportunity to deepen your connection
with your teacher, as I welcome all satsang. . .
.
When disturbed by negative thoughts, opposite
thoughts
should be thought of. This is Pratipaksha Bhavana.
