  • Sell-Through Spotlight: Harmony Remotes
  • Harmony 890 Remote

How do you vault from a 9% share of advanced remotes, to a 60% share, in less than a year? First, build a kick-ass remote that a chimpanzee could operate (assuming the chimpanzee owned a computer). Then, use a three-pronged campaign to get the word to the masses and excite, educate, and motivate retailers. The exact campaign recipe is a secret, but we can tell you that one of the three prongs was the 2005 Harmony Training Presentation created by Sell-Through Solutions.

Harmony was so pleased by the results that they retained Sell-Through Solutions again in 2006 to repeat the magic. Next up: top-secret projects for Harmony's parent company, Logitech. Will you be the next success story in our newsletter?

  • PowerPoint Tip of the Month: Keyboard Shortcuts
  • PPT shortcut page

Windows Vista and Office 2007 will sport a collage of purty new graphics, and the computer mouse will be as important as ever (see the mightiest mouse of all, the Revolution, at Logitech.com).

But power users know that the keyboard is the real speed demon for working in PowerPoint. If you're chained to PowerPoint for 40 hours a week, as I often am, cutting back on the rodent addiction by using keyboard shortcuts will give you four of those hours back. Want a round of golf, compliments of PowerPoint? The the magic is right under your fingertips!

  • Home Theater Tip: The Wandering Woofer
  • Auralex SubDude

If you live in the North, with your luxurious wall-to-wall carpet, a “walking” subwoofer isn’t a problem for you. Couple the thing to the floor with spikes, and you’re good to go. But for those who live in un-carpeted coastal communities in Florida, California, etc., have you ever tried to play a high-powered subwoofer on a tile or stone floor over a slab foundation? Put some Busta Rhymes on, and the sub wants to “walk” across the floor. There’s no carpet, no sub-floor, no basement—no place for bass energy to go except back into the enclosure. The sub starts the song over here, and ends it over there, bleeding power and sounding like crap the whole time.

The solution: The SubDude, by Auralex Acoustics. The SubDude is a subwoofer floatation device that decouples the subwoofer from the floor. Normally, you’d want the sub to couple, not decouple, to the floor. But that’s assuming you have a flexible floor (basement below), or a raised subfloor over slab. With tile or stone over slab, you want the SubDude. You’ll get your tight, deep bass back. The sub will actually play notes again. And its wandering days will be over.
