In July 1981, the New York Times reported an outbreak of a rare form of cancer among gay men in New York , first referred to as the "gay cancer." About the same time, Emergency Rooms in California began to see a rash of seemingly healthy young men presenting with fevers, flu like symptoms, and pneumonia. The sicknesses were soon linked together and determined to be the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome virus (AIDS). This deadly disease breaks down the immune system and stops t he body from fighting off other illnesses. In that first year of discovery over 1600 cases were diagnosed and almost 700 people died from HIV. Over the years, the disease continued to spread as more and more people were infected. At the end of 2006, over 25 million deaths were attributed to HIV and more than 39 million people worldwide were living with AIDS.
The scientists who discovered HIV were from the Pasteur Institute of France. Over a hundred year prior, Louis Pasteur was on the forefront of the scientific world. His discovery of the microscopic world of germs and the development of the germ theory revealed the cause of many infectious diseases. Pastuer had proposed that unseen by the human eye exists an environment of microorganisms. A disease spreads when these infectious germs are transmitted from one person to another. The most infectious disease is the common cold. The most deadly is the HIV virus. As horrible as AIDS is though, there is a disease that is much worse. There is a sickness that has killed many more people than HIV. The virus of sin leaves a person hopeless, defeated, and left for dead. Sin is a pandemic upon the world and a plague upon humanity.
Mankind is sin sick. "All have sinned and fallen short of the kavod/glory of YHWH ," Romans / Romiyah 3:23. So what is sin? Well, the book of 1 John speaks vividly on this subject and answers this question with a profoundly simple response. The definition and the remedy for sin are both discussed in 1 John 3:4-7, " Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous ."
And here it is in plain and simple English in verse 4 "sin is LAWLESSNESS! " To be "sin less" a person must be "law full." Christianity teaches that believers are not under law but under grace. Preachers say that the law has passed away and the "age of grace" has come. Others state the law is a bad, hindering set of confusing rules and regulations. Well, according to the above scripture " sin is lawlessness. " If a person violates YHWH's laws then a person is sinning. Sin is not keeping or obeying the laws or commands of the Bible. Sin is a life without the law; i.e. "lawlessness."
When "law" is mentioned in the Bible it is most often associated with the Torah of Moses, meaning the Torah, or Teaching, which YHWH gave to Israel in the wilderness. However, YHWH uses the word Torah to signify His instructions throughout the Hebrew Scriptures, including the Prophets and the Psalms. Since all of His Word is His Teaching, all of it is His Torah.
Today the Torah is the whole counsel of YHWH, the Bible, including the teachings of Moses AND the Newer Testament. Never in the whole scriptures is the Law spoken against as bad or contrary to Yahweh's will. In fact, in several places, especially in the Psalms, you can find peace, joy, and blessing come from keeping the Torah and meditating on it. Romans 7:12 says, " Mose's teachings are holy, and the commandments are holy, right, and good ." These teaching explains exactly how a believer should eat, live, worship, treat other people, and marry. Almost all of life's experiences are discussed in the first five books of Moshe. And according to the Bible itself, not following these commands is sinning. Like many infectious diseases, sin too is rampant.
Every man, woman, and child on the earth has been infected by sin. From birth, we enter into the Adam's family and suffer the consequences of the Fall. No one is good enough, holy enough, or wealthy enough to stop the affects of sin. Like dying people in a sick ward, sin causes man to be separated from YHWH and His holiness. " See, YHWH's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have brought separation between you and YHWH, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear ," Isaiah / Yesha'yahu 59:1,2 from the Restoration Scriptures True Name Edition.
Sin sickness, like many major illnesses leads to death. "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of YHWH is eternal chayim, " Romans / Romiyah 6:23. To those who trust the Great Physician there is healing and life. BUT, death must come first. Sin always produces death. The old self, the old man, must die in order for the eternal life of YHWH to come inside a person. Physical death is just the result of spiritual death that already exists within man. Y'shua said, " I am the resurrection and the life, he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall live," John / Yochannan 11:25. Trusting Y'shua is the only way to eternal life.
John 3:16 is the most well known verse from the entire Bible. And for good reason. This verse explains the besorah / gospel in a nutshell. " For YHWHso loved the olam hazeh (world, that He gave His only brought forth Son, that whoever believes on Him should not perish, but have everlasting chayim (life) ," John 3:16 from the Restoration Scriptures True Name Edition. What is interesting is that these very words were spoken to a Jewish leader named Nickdimon / Nicodemus. Y'shua was making it crystal clear that the only way a person can experience the resurrection life is to trust in Moschiach. Judaism won't do it. Torah obedience doesn't save. Man's ways, religion, good deeds, or church membership are not the answer. To be delivered or saved from eternal death a person must put their trust in Y'shua. The name Y'shua means "YHWH is salvation." When a person says, "I am saved," they are actually saying "I am trusting in Y'shua - YHWH's salvation." We are delivered from eternal death through the sacrifice of Y'shua. But is that all it takes? No!
" For by grace ye are saved through faith and not of yourselves: it is the gift of YHWH ," Ephesians / Ephsiyah 2:8,9.
First, notice that we are saved by "grace through faith ." Grace alone does not save. Nor does faith alone. Together the two provide the path of salvation. Separate they provide very little. Grace by itself or faith, by itself, brings death. Consider salvation to be like H20. Hydrogen, like grace, is a powerful element. But hydrogen can be manipulated and used to cause death. (Consider the hydrogen bomb!) Oxygen, like faith, is important. But too much oxygen produces a toxicity syndrome and sudden damage to the central nervous system. Together though, hydrogen and oxygen combine to make up something mankind can not live without - water! Let's examine these concepts from a Hebraic perspective to gain a better understanding of what happens when a person is born again.
Grace in the set apart Hebrew language is the word "chesed" or "chen." These terms describe unearned favor. Chesed / grace the is undeserved, unmerited advantages and privileges YHWH gives His children. The Greek word translated "grace" is "charis." It is from this word that we say that someone is "charismatic" or had "charisma." Every good and perfect gift is provided by His chesed. Through YHWH's chesed, He has provided salvation for everyone on Earth. " For the favor of YHWH that brings salvation has appeared to all men," Titus 2:11 from the Restoration Scriptures True Name Edition. But not everyone is saved.
Each person much personally accept, through faith, the Messiah Y'shua. Chesed is how we are saved and how we are to live. When we have his Chesed we have his favor, power, and blessings. The door of salvation is the entry point to chesed. Deliverance from wrath is just the first outpouring of YHWH's chesed upon His children. When a person accepts Moshiach Y'shua that person enters into the fullness of chesed offered by YHWH. There is so much more to the faith than just salvation.
YHWH's chesed is YHWH giving us all that we will ever need. By His chesed, we have everything necessary. What do you need today? It has already been provided by chesed. Through His chesed, YHWH has met our physical, spiritual, emotional, relational, and financial needs. We read in Ephsiyah / Ephesians 1:3 that YHWH has " blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places." We have accepted the gift of salvation that was provided by the work of Y'shua over two thousand years ago. In a similar manner, we should openly recognize that ALL of our needs have already been met by His chesed. When Y'shua said, "it is finished," He was describing the total outpouring of YHWH's chesed. Though we deserve judgment, we have been given favor. Its already a done deal. YHWH's favor is upon us totally and fully. YHWH can't love you more than He does right now. All of your needs have already been met by His chesed. The favor of YHWH has provided everything that you will ever need, starting with eternal life. Where is the miracle, the healing, the financial blessing or encouragement you need? YHWH's favor is found " in heavenly places," as it says in Ephsiyah 1:3. The answer to your prayers is located in the unseen spirit world.
Through faith a person brings into the physical realm what has already been provided in the spiritual realm. Faith is the currency mankind uses to relate to YHWH. " Without emunah it is impossible to please YHWH," says Ivrim / Hebrews 11:6. Consider chesed to be like a huge "all you can eat" buffet. Everything in the Father's will, that you can imagine is on the table. Faith pulls a chair right up to the buffet and begins to feast!
Faith, or "emunah" in Hebrew, is simply our positive response to what YHWH has already done. What is interesting about emunah is that it does NOT move YHWH. Faith does not make YHWH do anything. By chesed, YHWH has already done it all. Like forgiveness, healing and blessing is already a done deal. We must step out in emunah to get it. We are told to " walk by emunah and not by sight." This means our day to day life should be focused on the "substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen." Faith is not just a statement of belief BUT the effects of belief. Through emunah, we disperse YHWH's favor to the world.
When a person is born again, he reaches out and accepts what Y'shua did thousands of years ago. This is a pattern that is to be repeated after salvation as well. Each day, for every need, we are to look to YHWH as our provider. The scriptures tell us to " seek ye first the kingdom of YHWH and ALL these things will be added unto you." It is no surprise then that the term "emunah" is similar to the Hebrew word "emanut" which means "to create." By emunah, a believer can actively "create" in this world what has already been provided in the spiritual realm.
To better understand the power of chesed and emunah, let's review what really happens at the salvation experience. When a person is born again, their spirit is resurrected and they become a totally new creation. The old man has passed away and all things are brand new. The Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) indwells the believer and all of YHWH is placed within the spirit of man. Ephsiyah 4:24, " And that you put on the renewed man, which after YHWH is recreated in tzedakah (righteousness) and real set-apartness" The power and anointing of Y'shua is now within YOU! First John / Yochannan Alef 4:17 clarifies, " as He is, so are we in this world." This is the hope of glory - Y'shua in you! At salvation, all of YHWH's greatness has been given to you, including full access to his chesed. " Whoever finds me finds chayim / life and shall obtain favor from YHWH," Proverbs / Mishlei 8:35.
As Y'shua is - full of power, authority, peace, healing, compassion, and glory - so are we in this world. As a born again believer, your spirit is wall-to-wall Y'shua! All of YHWH's greatness has been given to us in the spirit realm. This doesn't mean we are little "gods." But what this does mean is that we can walk in the same victory that Y'shua had. Emunah operates to its fullest when we act upon the knowledge of what Y'shua has done FOR us and IN us. Repeat: emunah operates to its fullest when we act upon the knowledge of what Y'shua has done FOR us and IN us. "T hat the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Y'shua HaMoshiach," Philemon 1:6. Our faith affects this world when we acknowledge that YHWH, through His divine favor has provided all that we need. Noah, Avraham, and Moses all experienced the goodness of YHWH by emunah. And that same goodness or chesed is available to us today!
Each person has been given a "measure of emunah." One person doesn't have more faith than another person. One person may walk in more faith or operate in more faith, but we each have the same measure. Everyone does not use the emunah that YHWH has given them. Yet, each saint has been given the very same measure that was given to Y'shua. Miracles happen when we acknowledge that by chesed, YHWH has already saved, blessed, healed, and prospered us. Through emunah we can understand that our prayers are NOT answered based upon YHWH's moods. Our prayers are answered because of what Y'shua did for us and His divine plan.
Like the microscopic world of germs, there is an unseen world of the supernatural. Just because you can't feel it or see it, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. The sickness of sin has been vaccinated and healed. In the spiritual realm, YHWH's chesed has wiped out the plague of sin and death. Now, we must choose to walk in our spiritual healing. " This I say therefore, and testify in YHWH, that from now on you conduct your halacha (walk) not as other gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having their binah (understanding) darkened, being alienated from the chayim of Y'shua through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their lev (heart): Who being past feeling have given themselves over to indecency, to perform all uncleanness with greediness. But you have not learned your chayim in Moshiach that way ;" Ephesians 4:17-20.
To accomplish such a mighty task, one should cling to YHWH and His word. Study and meditate on the scriptures. Fast and pray. Believe that there is a world beyond what you can see, smell, touch, taste, or hear. And believe that in that spiritual realm, all of your needs are met in Y'shua our Messiah. In closing, when a person is born again, their spirit is transformed into a new creation. But, their mind and body are the same. If you were skinny before you accepted Y'shua, you were skinny right after you accepted Him. The old man that has died left behind a body! This body must come under control and subjection of the spirit of Y'shua.
The mind too must be renewed to Biblical pattern of thinking. Until the mind, or soul, is transformed an individual will continue to doubt, fear, lust, and sin. Romans 12:1 & 2 clarifies that there is a two step process to true holiness. " I beg you therefore, Yisraelite brothers, by the rachamim (mercies) of YHWH, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, kadosh (set apart), acceptable to YHWH, which is your act of reasonable worship. And be not conformed to this olam hazeh (this world): but be transformed by the ongoing renewing of your mind, that you may discern what is that tov, acceptable, and even the perfect, will of YHWH ," Romiyah / Romans 12: & 2.
The body must be presented to YHWH upon the altar and the mind must be renewed to YHWH's thought process. It is only when we fully offer ourselves to him and walk in emunah that we experience the true healing from sin and death. HIV is bad. Sin is worse. But, by chesed through faith in Y'shua we can have healing and deliverance.
