It is a great feeling to wrap up a project like finishing a term paper, remodeling a room or filing your taxes (okay-so maybe the last one doesn't produce a "great" feeling but you get my drift). Other tasks take great perseverance like building a home or completing a degree.

Perseverance is what brought victory to Louisville Metro citizens in their desire to make their community a better and safer place for their children and grandchildren when the Kentucky Supreme Court upheld the city's right to a protective s*xually oriented business ordinance. That law is in danger, unfortunately, by some in opposition to the vision for Louisville families because it cuts into their bottom line based upon greed and money made from the exploitation of women. And it would seem it is in danger by others who may be unduly influenced by the local s*x industry and their attorneys. There are forces currently at work that are determined to fight enforcement of a law that has been deemed constitutional and enforceable.

Several of you have contacted your council members and asked that the full Louisville Metro adult entertainment business ordinance be enforced and that no special agreements be made between the s*x businesses and the city. Thank you for making that call. For enforcing the ordinance they passed and the courts have upheld, your Louisville Metro Council member needs to know this a priority to you. If you haven't called already, will you contact your council member today? Please call 311 or find your council member here. You have been involved in this process every step by making your voices heard. Tell your council member that you want them to ask Metro attorneys what "arrangements" are being made with local s*x clubs and that you support immediate and full enforcement of the ordinance for the protection of your children and family. Remember to be polite and respectful and let us know your council member's response to your call. The number for the ROCK office is (502) 297-9892.

Your council member has full access to the Louisville Metro Department of Codes and Regulations, which has issued several citations for alleged violations of Louisville Metro's ordinance. Ask them to investigate this situation and encourage their perseverance on this matter.

Spread the word about the "IN GOD WE TRUST" plate!

ROCK Cares would like to thank those of you who have acted swiftly to send in your application for the "IN GOD WE TRUST" license plate! We need 900 applications to get this plate on Kentucky highways. Please help today by downloading the application to share with friends, family and groups with whom you are associated. Encourage them to fill it out and mail it with a $25 check made payable to the ROCK Cares Foundation. The address is ROCK Cares Foundation, 1717 Alliant Ave., Suite 21A, Louisville, KY 40299.

Each license plate requested will require a separate application but one check may be used to pay the fee. For example, the Smith family has three cars. Three applications will be printed and filled out with one check for $75 ($25x3 license plates) written to the address above. Once 900 applications have been collected and submitted, the process to have the plates available to motorists will take approximately 90 days. Our goal is to collect 900 applications as soon as possible so that the plate will be available by Nov. 1. Will you help make that goal a reality? Please submit your application today!

The actual cost of the plate is $44, of which the ROCK Cares Foundation can receive $10 to support projects and programs. As one of the first 900 applicants, your $25 fee will be applied to the specialty license plate fee. Once your application is submitted by ROCK Cares to the Kentucky Transportation Department, the state will send a voucher through the mail. A personalized specialty plate may be requested at your local county clerk's office for an additional $25.

ROCK intern hits a homerun!

ROCK said goodbye last week to ADF Blackstone summer intern George Blazek. A second year law student at the UGeorge_Blazekniversity of Iowa, George was selected for this highly competitive program that pairs the best and brightest of today's law school students with organizations upholding the Judeo-Christian ideals that have made our nation great. George assisted on researching issues regarding the various ways p*rnography and the s*x industry harms communities and families and the important role the law plays in protecting against those harms. After earning his Juris Doctorate, George plans to pursue a legal career for a non-profit organization that represents the interests of the Christian community.

National awareness campaign: P*rn harms women

This week, P*rn Harms will focus on how p*rnography is linked to violence against women. Such violence often takes on different forms.
  1. P*rnography, which portrays women deriving pleasure from physical abuse, tends to enable men to foster attitudes more forgiving of violence against women and to become more comfortable with the "idea" of rape.
  2. There is an abundant amount of evidence that shows viewers of p*rnography often seek to find ways to perform in real life the same certain s*x acts that they saw on the films, magazines, and online.
  3. The actual making of p*rnography often involves violence and s*xual assault. During the production of commercial p*rnography, performers are subjected to intense abuse and violence and are pressured to continue by their agent or director. Additionally, many performers are forced to participate against their will and are trafficked.
  4. Consumers graduate from common to less common forms of p*rnography as their usage increases over time. This may be because familiar material becomes unexciting as a result of habituation. These consumers move to more violent and degrading materials as they become invested more in p*rnography.

As you can see, a more tolerant attitude towards p*rn in society is making many women victims. P*rn Harms will focus this week on these realities. Their goal is to help you understand a little better how p*rnography harms! Please click here for a list of scheduled online events.
