In the articles highlighted below, Christian counselor Rob Jackson explains how digging deeply into wounds of the past can help people sort out and understand why they act the way they do today, even why they are betraying their values and commitments.
In "The Three Levels of Sin," Jackson describes sin as not just an offense against God or another person, but as a wound that harms a person by separating him from God and others. As he put it, "Sin recycles the trauma of humanity." Once people understand the deadly influence of sin, they can begin to address the damage it has caused to their lives.
In "Understanding Intimacy Disorder and Addictions," Jackson explains how problematic behavior such as p*rnography use or infidelity is usually just the tip of the iceberg. People too often focus only on the problematic behavior above the surface without understanding that beneath the surface is distorted thinking, wounded emotions and a spirit hungry for intimacy. This kind of disintegration is healed by reintegrating a person's body, mind and spirit through a renewed intimacy with God. Like a stream of fresh water, a restored relationship with God can begin to clean out the muddy areas of our thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
I hope these resources will help you guide those wounded souls in your care. As always, if anything we have highlighted has helped you, we'd love to hear your story.
May God richly bless you.
