Mary Ann GramigSummer has barely arrived, but ROCK is already turning up the heat on initiatives to raise the level of decency across our region. We continue to assist citizens in southern Indiana and Clarksville, in particular, as they stand up to government officials that would neglect the protection of children and families while expanding opportunities for the s*x industry. Citizens are making their voices heard and won't stop until responsive government and positive change are the new order of the day. ROCK has also been assisting municipalities in Indiana, Kentucky and other states to strengthen their local measures for the betterment of those communities and families. Congratulations to cities as far away as New Jersey who are standing firm!  You are making a difference!

Also in Indiana, ROCK is proud to be assisting concerned state legislators who are working to bring lasting change to Hoosier families by strengthening laws regarding the negative effects of the s*x industry. New legislation will help create a wholesome environment where families can flourish and sets an example for every government official across the state sworn to serve the best interests of the people they represent.

In Kentucky and Metro Louisville, we look forward to working with local officials in the comprehensive enforcement of that city's adult entertainment ordinance.  Also in Kentucky, the Transportation Cabinet has invited the ROCK Cares Foundation to reapply for a special "In God We Trust" license plate. Once approved, proceeds from the voluntary donations associated with the purchase of the plate will go for programs and services to assist s*xually exploited women and children across the Commonwealth.  We will keep you posted as this develops.

These are but a few of our current projects. Recently my attention has been directed toward fundraising as we face the summer months. Traditionally, and this summer is no exception, non-profit organizations see dips in funding. As we all must get creative in stretching our family budgets during current economic challenges, we also must not let the issues that impact where we live, work and raise our families fall by the wayside. If you are currently a monthly financial supporter, thank you for continuing in that commitment. We depend on that steady budget flow to make sure the issues you hold dear move forward effectively and efficiently. If possible, may I ask you to consider a slight increase in your giving amount, or if you have never been a regular monthly supporter, could you help us fulfill our mission by joining us as a monthly donor?  All donations are tax deductible. Please click this link which will take you to the special   "Summertime Support and Beyond" campaign to increase your current donation or begin for the first time with a $25, $50, $100 or more contribution. Thank you and know that every dollar is appreciated and vital to our mission!

Finally, as the long awaited summer break has arrived for our kids and schedules slow down a little, rest assured that ROCK never stops working on your behalf as we stand together and stand strong in our effort to ensure a great place to live, work and play for generations to come. Stay cool and enjoy the summer sun!

questionsSurvey results revealed!

A few months ago, we invited ROCK supporters to take two surveys to 1) help us understand what you think this organization's priorities should be and 2) learn how to better serve you. Thank you for taking the time to respond. We have already been making changes based on your feedback. You can see the results of those surveys here.

P.S. Congratulations to Mark M. who won an iPod in our recent survey drawing. Thanks to all who participated. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we move forward.

Are Louisville strip clubs obeying the local law?

sex_clubLast month, two local television stations sent undercover reporters and cameras into area strip clubs to investigate whether clubs were complying with Metro Louisville's s*xually oriented business ordinance. Watch WHAS 11's report.  ROCK will meet with Louisville Metro officials next week to find out how citizens can support the city's efforts to enforce the ordinance designed to protect families and communities from harmful effects of the s*x industry.

Clarksville Town HallClarksville quiet on red light district

On April 4th, Clarksville passed a comprehensive zoning ordinance which includes an adult business district for any incoming s*x businesses but leaves Theatair X untouched. Passage of the ordinance requires a district map to be presented to the council within 30 days. However, the last two Plan Commission meetings have been cancelled and the district map has not been presented. The citizens Clarksville still remain vulnerable to any s*x business that wants to move into their neighborhoods. ROCK looks forward to working with public officials who are responsive to citizens' concerns and requests, and asks the Clarksville Town Council to amend its ordinance to reflect the Spencer County, Ind. model.  If you haven't already been to www.truthabouttheatairx.com, please take a moment to see just what's happening at Theatair X.

One step closer to In God We Trust specialty plate
ROCK Cares Foundation has been invited by the KenROCK_Cares_specialty_plate_2011tucky Transportation Cabinet to come to Frankfort on June 21st to discuss an "In God We Trust" specialty plate for Kentucky. Voluntary donations from this plate would be used to help women and children exploited and victimized by the s*x industry.
Positive changes for decency coming to Indiana!
ROCK recently met with leaders from other pro-family groups and several key Indiana legislators to discuss positive steps toward increasing the level of decency for Indiana families and Indiana_flagchildren. Kentucky and other states will be watching Indiana's model closely and may adopt similar changes to the law. ROCK will keep you updated on these initiatives and let you know how you can bring lasting change for Hoosier families!
