Greetings!

Hello,

Welcome to the April 2012 newsletter.  Spring has officially arrived in Chicago I am sure you are all enjoying the beautiful un-season-like weather that has blessed us all.  Welcome Spring!

Some of us have just returned from Convergence and let me tell you, it was AWESOME!  We kicked off the convention at Minute Maid Park where we got to ride a mechanical bull, tour the clubhouse, ate stadium food, and listened to a great concert by Daughtry.

A few of us volunteered for Habitat for Humanity on Sunday morning (Joan, a customer, Lisa Miller and I) - we scraped and painted houses, planted fruit trees and plants, built out and planted gardens for 9 churches, rehabbed a food kitchen and 3 homes that were in desperate need of repair and actually framed out 3 brand new homes for deserving families.  There were over 300 people who gave their time and efforts to the Independance Heights neighborhood outside of Houston - you can see a small article about the project in the Houston LISC Newsletter by clicking here.  It was a truly rewarding experience and I will be doing it again next year when Convergence 2013 will be heading to New Orleans, LA - March 18-21.  Please mark your calendars and prepare to attend!

We were exhausted at the end of the 3 day event and it was well worth it.  We all attended many, many sessions, learned a great deal of information, shook a lot of hands, ate a lot of food and drank a few cocktails at the hosted parties and receptions.  LANAC customers enjoyed a private dinner at Vic and Anthony's on Monday night and attended the InterDyn party on Tuesday night at the House of Blues.

One of the highlights for me, however, was the ending Keynote where General Colin Powell spoke.  He made us all howl with laughter, cry with sentiment and feel pride for our country - a true GEM in my eyes.  I am so thankful for the opportunity to have seen him.

We do hope you can join us next year for another wild ride at Convergence.  I have yet to hear a customer be disappointed that they went. You can sign up for email alerts for Convergence 2013 by clicking here.

5 Qualities of Remarkable Bosses
Light bulbOWNERS' MANUAL
Mar 5, 2012

Remarkable bosses aren't great on paper. Great bosses are remarkable based on their actions.

Results are everything-but not the results you might think.

Consistently do these five things and everything else follows. You and your business benefit greatly.

More importantly, so do your employees.

1. Develop every employee. Sure, you canput your primary focus on reaching targets, achieving results, and accomplishing concrete goals-but do that and you put your leadership cart before your achievement horse.

5 Email Mistakes to Avoid

March 15, 2012 8:04 AM
By  Dave Johnson
(MoneyWatch)

Email has become the primary way to communicate with people in the office -- in many companies, email is even more common than face-to-face conversations. It's important, then, to avoid behaviors that will get you in hot water with your boss and coworkers. You might not even realize you're guilty of some of these gaffes, but rest assured that other people notice. Here's how to avoid the worst email mistakes:
1.  Put the point of the message at the top, not the bottom. I've written about this many times; it's sometimes referred to as BLUF -- "Bottom Line Up Front." Rather than writing your email like a story, with all the context in the beginning and the request or action item at the end, put the key information on the very first line. Then provide as much context as you like. This way, your recipients don't have to slog through a ton of backstory to reach your point.  Click here to read the rest of this story.

Lessons from "The Office" for Your Office

By:  Vivian Wagner

Open Forum

February 20, 2012

How many times have you watched NBC's hit TV series "The Office" and cringed? There's a reason for that response-the show is sometimes a little too close for comfort. Between office parties and office romances, weddings, awards ceremonies and double entendrés, "The Office" is one hilariously uncomfortable situation after another.

In addition to being entertainment, the show actually has a few lessons for real offices-including those that specialize in business services, like Dunder Mifflin.

After all, it's funny to watch other people in these situations, but it's not so funny to be in them in real life.

Is Your Company Ready for CRM?
More companies than ever are incorporating a CRM system to help manage and protect their current customer base, manage sales pipeline, help with customer service, create cases, etc.

Given that it costs 7 times more to acquire a new account than it does to keep the ones you already have, it may be wise to invest in a "Sure Bet" and proven technology with Microsoft Dynamics CRM.  Companies today are smarter and are going to great lengths to gain new clientelle, make sure they aren't targeting and winning over yours.  A good customer stays loyal if you give them a reason to.
