Come See A Real Mummy!
Magnamorph Deities

Recently the 3,000 year-old  face of King Tut was revealed to the world in November. This event came 85 years to the day after the pharaoh's tomb was discovered by British explorer Howard Carter in 1923.  Until then, only about 50 living people have seen the face of the boy king. G.WIZ may not have King Tut, but it does have a real mummy!  Come see our authentic falcon mummy, from around 650 BC from the Joseph A. Lewis II and Sofi Lewis Collection.  Click HERE to find out more about other exhibits available at GWIZ.

Egyption Fact-toid:

Next time you drop quarters in the soda machine think of this: In first century AD Hero of Alexandria Egypt invented the first vending machine! A coin was placed in slot on top of a box it fell on a pan attached to a lever- that activated a valve that released a set amount of holy water. The weight of the coin would also set off a counter weight that would stop the flow of water.

Dear Friend of G.WIZ

There are many wonderful things happening here at G.WIZ.  Our Education department has been busy with school field trips,  giving tours and presenting workshops for the King Tut exhibit.  The sleepover with the Brownie Girl Scouts in October was a huge success.

In preparation for the Holidays our Gift Shop is busy getting ready for the annual Double Discount Days.
We are all very excited about the matching grant from Irv & Marilyn Naiditch...for every dollar raised from our donors and friends, they will match up to $50,000! There is only one catch; we need to meet this goal by December 31, 2007 (for more info go
HERE).

Please take a look at the coming events.

Hope to see you soon,

~The G.WIZ Staff ~

A Night in the Pharaoh's Tomb

75 Brownie Girl Scouts and 25 Troop Leaders and chaperones traveled to ancient Egypt at G.WIZ last Friday, and spent the night with King Tut, the Boy King, to earn their "Around the World" Try-It and "G.WIZ" Patch.

The Brownie Scouts attended workshops on Egyptian astronomy, pyramid building, symbols, and mummification. They also learned about the techniques and skills Archaeologists need to excavate a dig site.

The evenings snacks featured Egyptian cheeses, yogurts, grapes, pita chips, and humus, followed by a guided tour of the King Tut exhibit.  The grand finale was an interpretive Egyptian dance performance by staff member Lyndsay Gordon.

Everyone agreeed they had taken an extraordinary journey to a different place and time.

The next sleep over will be with Junior Girl Scout sleepover May 10, 2008.
