Dustmites: Everything You Might Not Want To Know (part 2)
What Are Dustmites?
House dust mites are microscope bugs that primarily live on dead skin cells regularly shed from humans and their animal pets. Dust mites are generally harmless to most people. They don't carry diseases, but they can cause allergic reactions in asthmatics and others who are allergic to their feces.
Skin cells and scales, commonly called dander, are often concentrated in lounging areas, mattresses, frequently used furniture and associated carpeted areas, often harbor large numbers of these microscopic mites. Since the average human sloughs off 1/3 ounce (10 grams) of dead skin a week. That gives dust mites a lot to eat. Cats and dogs create far more dander for dust mites to eat.
A typical mattress can contain tens of thousands of dust mites. Sick yet? Nearly 100,000 mites can live in one square yard of carpet. Ready to convince your spouse to start bathing regularly? Did you know a single dust mite produces about 20 waste droppings each day, each containing a protein to which many people are allergic. Yuck! The proteins in that combination of feces and shed skin are what cause allergic reactions in humans. Depending on the person and exposure, reactions can range from itchy eyes to asthma attacks. And finally, unlike other types of mites, house dust mites are not parasites, since they only eat dead tissue. Gross, but true.
 Beds are a prime habitat (where 1/3 of life occurs). A typical used mattress may have anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million mites inside. (Ten percent of the weight of a two year old pillow can be composed of dead mites and their droppings.) Mites prefer warm, moist surroundings such as the inside of a mattress when someone is on it. A favorite food is dander (both human and animal skin flakes). Humans shed about 1/5 ounce of dander (dead skin) each week. About 80 percent of the material seen floating in a sunbeam is actually skin flakes. Also, bedroom carpeting and household upholstery support high mite populations.
The University of Manchester performed a 2005 medical study of pillows that found up to 16 species of fungi in a single pillow. They tested feather and synthetic pillows in a range of ages, finding thousands of spores of fungus per gram of pillow ; more than is found on an average used toothbrush.
Several studies have taken place recently examining the effectiveness allergen removal through routine carpet cleaning and quantifying airborne dust mite allergen content above carpeted surfaces. Each of these studies has demonstrated the effectiveness of carpet cleaning in removing dust mite allergen and carpets effectiveness in trapping allergen and preventing its release into the breathing zone.
In a two-year, south Florida school study, examining the effectiveness of routine maintenance in lowering dust mite allergen levels, dust mite allergen levels were reduced by an average of 92% with each routine carpet cleaning. An additional 12 month south Florida school study reinforced these findings. In the two-year carpet cleaning study, allergen levels were tracked throughout the study period with a regular carpet care program in effect. Allergen levels, which were considered quite high at the beginning of the study continued to decline throughout the study period and gradually increased only after regular carpet care had been discontinued.

How To Select A Bible
 The other day I purchased a bible from an online website. It was a really good deal. Well when I received the bible in the mail a few days later it was not exactly what I expected. It was a compact bible and I wanted a full size one. But because I didn't read everything carefully, I ended up with a really nice bible but not one I wanted. Anyway, I was talking with a friend of mine, Warren Hamby, about all the different bibles there are out there and how can I know what to look for when buying one. Because there are so many bibles to choose from he gave me a way to simplify what I am searching for with these 5 quick questions. 1. What will you be using the Bible for? A study Bible contains articles and commentary to help you understand it. A devotional Bible contains short meditations and thoughts to help your prayer life and inspire you. Reference Bibles contain no commentary, but there are references to other passages that are about the same subject. Text Bibles are just "regular" Bibles, although most contain some references. Two or more translations under one cover are called parallel Bibles. 2. What translation do you prefer? Nowadays there are many English translations of the Bible. Some are easier to read than others, especially for children or persons who haven't read the Scripture much. There are two philosophies of translation: Word-for-word accuracy (King James, New American Standard), and Thought-for-thought accuracy (New Living Translation, Good News). A paraphrase (The Message) is a rendering of the Scripture in the author's own words, great for inspiration but not as good for study. 3. What kind of binding? Bibles come in paperback, hard cover, imitation leather, bonded leather, and genuine leather. Some imitation leather is quite attractive and soft nowadays and is branded "leathersoft" or something similar. Genuine leather differs from bonded in that it is cut from one piece of hide and therefore lasts longer. 4. Who are the editors? Those scholars who write the commentary in study Bibles differ in their theological orientation. While you don't want commentary that you will agree with all the time, you definitely need study notes that you can connect with. Generally, study Bibles with a large number of editors, rather than one or two, render a more balanced approach. Pick a passage, go to it, and see if the notes help you understand it better. 5. How much do you want to spend? The invaluable Word of God can be purchased for as little as a few dollars, or for over one hundred dollars. The reasons for these price variations are; the binding, whether there are articles or commentary notes, the print size, and whether the Bible is thumb indexed. Ingredients
- 12 ounces ground pork sausage
- 12 ounces spicy ground pork sausage
- 1 (16 ounce) jar processed cheese sauce
- 1 (1 pound) loaf sliced pumpernickel party bread
Directions
- Preheat the broiler.
- Place ground pork sausage and spicy ground pork sausage in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain sausage. Mix in processed cheese sauce. Arrange pumpernickel party bread slices in a single layer on a medium baking sheet. Place even amounts of the sausage mixture on each slice.
- Broil the bread slices 3 to 5 minutes, checking frequently, until toasted.

- First remove what you can of the nail polish by blotting it up with paper towels or scooping it up with a plastic spoon. Remember to work the nail polish towards the center of the spill to keep it from spreading.
- Next pour a little nail polish remover on a terry cloth towel and blot the nail polish up, again, working everything towards the center as much as possible. Keep applying the nail polish remover and blotting it up until the stain is gone.
- If you get to the point where you are no longer getting transfer to the towel, then you will want to pour a small amount of nail polish remover directly on the spot, let it dwell for 2 min. then blot it up.
- If you missed the spill and didn't notice it until the nail polish has dried, then start with step 3.
- Once you have complete removal, then apply a small amount of Dad's Spot Remover. This will help absorb and rinse out the nail polish remover.
- Apply a generous amount of clean tap water to the area and absorb back up to rinse out any residue. Blot or use a shop vac till 95% of the water is removed.
- Place a fan in the area to dry it.
