The big news of the week centers on Wednesday night's Aquarius New Moon/Annular Solar Eclipse, falling in mid-Aquarius (17Aqu44) 10:44 PM EST. This marks the beginning of a powerful new solar-lunar cycle that is likely to reverberate for months to come. The next two weeks will probably express strong Aquarian themes in the way of group involvements as well as unique forms of self-expression. Unless you're on a cruise- ship off the northern coast of Antarctica, you won't be able to see the "ring of fire."

With the eclipse falling at the same location as retrograde Mercury, Chiron and Neptune, it's likely that we'll be seeing an amplification of Mercury retro themes in the way of errors, glitches, detours, misunderstandings, disappearances, breakdowns, accidents and freak-outs.

The positive attributes of this eclipsed cluster can manifest by way of close study, research, healing, creativity and random acts of kindness. Avoid coming to firm convictions about anything over the next two weeks, not only with Mercury retrograde, but also due to the fact that we're between eclipses - the next being the Full Moon/Total Lunar Eclipse on February 20 - a common time for false conclusions.

Eclipses and Candles

Eclipses mark key points of change in any given year and often bring on sudden news. Keep in mind that some eclipses deliver their news one month to the day later, plus or minus four days. New moon eclipses tend to emphasize facts rather than emotions, while full moon eclipses are much more feeling-oriented.

It was believed by the Ancients that at the time of a solar eclipse God had a clear view of all the earth and that one's good intentions would at that time be rewarded by one's desires. By making a list of your desires, you will be focusing your energies so that your desires will be manifested.

Here are suggestions from "The Candle Lighting Encyclopedia" by Tina Ketch to assist you in observing eclipses.
The lunar eclipse at the beginning of the release time frame (Full Moon) will intensify your desire to release everything you no longer need, everything that no longer serves you. In preparation for a lunar eclipse, make a list of everything that you wish to release from your life. Use a small white candle to light a white candle and burn your list with the larger white candle.

The solar eclipse at the beginning of the bring time frame (New Moon) will intensify your desire to start over, to plan a new life for yourself and begin new projects. In preparation for a solar eclipse, make a list of everything that you wish to bring into your life. Use a small white candle to light a white candle and burn your list with the white candle.

White candles show the purity of your intent. Let the main candle burn itself out. Do not blow it out, as this cancels the effect and intent. If you do not wish to let it burn out, snuff it out.

Music, meditation, chanting, prayers, etc., can be used to create a ritual to amplify your intentions. Be creative. Above all, enjoy!

Note from Lois: I find it works well to hold the list with tongs over an aluminum pie plate and that doing this at the kitchen range with an exhaust fan going controls the smoke. I then take the ashes outside and return them to nature. Cast them away, turn around and leave them. Don't look back.

You ask 'why' of situations that you do not understand, where you are hurt, angry or disappointed. You ask 'why' of things that happened in the past, of things that you feel powerless about or cannot change. You ask 'why' of people who are unkind or disrespectful, who treat you badly or who are not supportive. This is the ego's way of keeping you in the past, of showing you where you failed and of preventing you from moving forward. 'Why' is the question that the ego asks; spirit does not care about 'why' because it does not matter. Spirit is always moving forward; 'why' is part of the past.

Spirit is ready to respond to questions like, 'what did I learn', 'what is the lesson for me' and 'what is the most powerful path for me'. It is not concerned with 'why' because it does not matter. There is no answer to the question of 'why' something happened because you are the creator of your reality. And only you can know why you created the situations and experiences that are part of your healing and growth. Only you know the reason why, and yet it is a question you are constantly asking of the Universe.

You also ask others 'why' they do things that they do and there is no answer for you. Each person acts within the boundaries of their level of enlightenment and karma. Until they are aware of these things they do not think about what they are doing, they simply act. They cannot give you reasons for their actions because they do not know. Can you offer explanations of everything that you do? Do you know why you choose certain lessons, attract certain people and create a specific life path and reality? If you ask 'why' of others you must also be prepared to ask the same question of yourself.

When you step into the energy of what is, you will no longer need to ask why. You will be comfortable with the concept of perfection and will have no need for explanation. Once humanity is ready to accept its partnership with the Universe in creating higher levels of consciousness, there will be no reason to question the past. Everyone will be living in the present moment and the concept of the past will not exist. This means that old fears, pain and abuses will no longer be part of your thinking. Revenge and retribution will cease to be causes for action and peace and joy will be possible for all.
