  • Greetings!

The chill of the season is in the air. We hope to see everyone at the District A Festival on Saturday!

    District A Festival This Weekend!

When You Wish Upon a Fish, Saturday, OCT 13th, 11 - 12 noon, at the Corner of Kennedy Ave & Montgomery Rd, future home of Kennedy Heights Cultural Center Watch the famous Grimm brothers take the stage in one of MADCAP's most popular shows! Here's their challenge: the Grimm's have three completely different versions of The Fisherman and his Wife and they can't decide which fishy tale to use in their book. Laugh your way through the audience participation, magical talking fish, and surprise endings of all three outrageous tales that add up to one great slapstick adventure - no matter what your age!

Then follow the Fisherman to Kennedy Heights Arts Center, the 2nd of 6 community venues in District A's 2012 Arts & Music Festival. Make this the day you take advantage of all that KHAC offers, from its "Let's Face It" FOTOFOCUS exhibit and studios inside, to the acres of gardens outside. Create your very own work of art anytime from 10 am - 2 pm. Don't miss Todd Hepburn on piano from noon - 1 pm. Enjoy it all.

These two District A Festival celebrations are more than good fun. They offer Kennedy Heights a unique opportunity to bring neighbors out and together to enjoy performance art at the unused Kennedy/Montgomery corner; to 'parade' to the KHAC campus and enjoy walking a bit of the neighborhood; and to envision the future that's coming to Kennedy Heights through the arts!

THERE'S MORE! District A's Annual Arts & Music Festival is a 12-hour 'progressive party' from Kennedy Heights to Pleasant Ridge, 10am - 10 pm, at 6 unique venues along Montgomery Rd. In the afternoon, you're invited to the Opening Reception of SNAPSHOTS & MEMORIES: Building our Future by Discovering their Past, 2 - 5 pm, at 6200 Montgomery, in the new Beans and Grapes community spaces. Come and meet some amazing KH neighbors whose stories are told through the eyes, and camera lenses, of our young teens in a gorgeous photo exhibit.

Community Council Special Meeting Nov. 8

There will be a special meeting of the Kennedy Heights Community Council to discuss a policy question that needs to be tackled regarding how we move forward as a neighborhood. That issue is the vacant property that was formerly Shroder School on Lumford

All KH residents are invited although we certainly expect Robison and Lumford residents to be most interested.

By charter, the Kennedy Heights Development Corporation will not take a position until the Council has engaged residents through the meeting and has a stronger indication of how best to proceed. If Community Council has a clear position and requests the assistance of KHDC then KHDC may elect to become involved but that question has not been posed yet.

This meeting will take place at the Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church on Thursday November 8th, and 7:00 PM will be the start time.

The Metallic Club is an organization of retired men from all fields and professions who meet once a week, on Friday mornings, for social fellowship and to listen to presentations from guest speakers who have worked, traveled, or had interesting experiences locally or around the world. Our objective is to keep learning.

We get our name from having "Silver in our hair, Gold in our teeth, Iron in our blood, Rust in our joints, and Lead in our feet." The Club is non-sectarian and non-political and welcomes all retired men. And, happily, women and non members are always invited as guests.

Meetings occur from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays and take place at two locations, the Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church (1st & 3rd Fridays), and the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church (2nd & 4th Fridays). Average attendance is about 45.
