    NEP Neighborhood Ambassadors

A note from Mary Ray, Kennedy Heights Community Council Board Member. I am happy to announce that Kennedy Heights has been chosen by the City to participate in the 2012 Neighborhood Enhancement Program. The NEP will run from March 1 - June 30, 2012.

During the program, Kennedy Heights will work with the City of Cincinnati to resolve many issues, from safety to beautification and beyond.

Step one of the program was to create a "Wish List" for the City so they can get an idea of what we need. That is where the Street Ambassadors come in.

I am seeking Street Ambassadors that will work between now and June 30 to gather information and distribute information on their street. You might be asked to attend monthly meetings or circulate email or flyers to your street. You will also be asked to provide the approved "Wish List" items for your own street, answering questions such as "Do all your street lights function? Are there any vacant homes on your street? Are their neighbors who could use assistance maintaining their property?"

Please let me know if you would be willing and able to be the Street Ambassador for Your Street. If not, maybe you could suggest someone who would be a good candidate?

Thank you for your dedication to Kennedy Heights, and please call me if you have any questions about the NEP or the role of the Street Ambassador,

    Mary Ray

Last Call For Neighborhood "Wish List"

At tomorrow's community council meeting the neighborhood will be approving items designated on its "wish list" of programs, projects, events and other items we would like to see The City address in our neighborhood through the Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP).

There will still be time to offer new items for this list. Ideas need to be detailed such as improved lighting at the Kennedy Park, or repaving Tyne, or seasonal banners on poles along the business district. Ideas can be for improvements to an existing situation or for something entirely new.

There has been a lot of great input from our residents for improvements for our community and this preliminary process is coming to a close..

If you are unable to attend, please e-mail any ideas or suggestions to Natalie@KennedyHeights.org by noon on Tuesday, January 17

Playhouse in the Park returns to District A

Mark your 2012 calendar for SAT, January 21, 7 - 8:30 PM. That's when Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park returns to District A with a performance of WAR at Nativity School's Performing Arts Center, 5936 Ridge Road. This play about four young men who are trying to figure out what the world expects of them creates a unique opportunity for our local audience to explore some of the causes and effects of the violence that touches us all. The 'talk-back' with the actors still 'in character' will draw out diverse voices and viewpoints across our own neighborhoods. So join the conversation and enjoy the show! Green Corner and Giving Garden Spring 2012 Activities

The Green Corner Studios and Marketplace and Giving Garden of Cincinnati, both located at 6524 Montgomery Rd are delighted to announce plans for activities in the Spring of 2012.

    Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP)
The Giving Garden and Green Corner will be fully participating in neighborhood enhancement activities as part of the Kennedy Heights NEP starting March 1st 2012. The Green Corner is specifically looking at securing resources to make several facility improvements to the property facing Montgomery Road. The Giving Garden is leading the numerous Beautification efforts that have been identified in a "wish list" and will be bringing significant volunteer help to these projects. If you are interested in hearing more and volunteering for a project, please contact Martin Wagner at (513) 910-9876 or email him at Marty@givinggardencincinnati.org

    Green Corner Market
We are delighted to announce The Green Corner Market will be returning this Spring - details are being finalized. We are exploring ideas to make the market unique and stand out from the others so that it becomes your community market of choice each time. If you have great ideas, know of potential vendors or would like to help out in any way, please contact Richard Cooke at (513) 910-9875 or email him at rjcooke6257@yahoo.com

Gardeners' Club at the Giving Garden
The Giving Garden is announcing the launch of its Gardeners' Club, effective immediately for the 2012 growing season. A limited number of raised planting beds (12ft x 3ft) will be made available for rental, for a small annual fee of $100 each. The fee includes use of water and access to composting facilities. Members can expect to benefit from the sharing of gardening tips and knowledge with each other, making new friends and the security of a fenced in garden that keeps the deer out. The Giving Garden is a pesticide and systemic-free zone and hence the Club will be practicing organic methods of cultivation and pest control that are safe for people, plants and animals. If you are interested, please contact Martin Wagner as soon as possible as only 8 of the 11 beds are still available for rental. Telephone: (513) 910-9876 or email: Marty@givinggardencincinnati.org

    Metallic Club Notes

The Metallic Club is an organization of retired men from all fields and professions who meet once a week, on Friday mornings, for social fellowship and to listen to presentations from guest speakers who have worked, traveled, or had interesting experiences locally or around the world.

We get our name from having "Silver in our hair, Gold in our teeth, Iron in our blood, Rust in our joints, and Lead in our feet." The Club is non-sectarian and non-political and welcomes all retired men. And, happily, women and non members are invited as guests.

Meetings occur from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays and take place at two locations, the Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church (1st & 3rd Fridays), and the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church (2nd & 4th Fridays). Average attendance is about 45.
