KENNEDY HEIGHTS SELECTED FOR CITY'S NEIGHBORHOOD ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM |
 |
The Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP) is a 90-day collaborative effort between City departments, neighborhood residents and community organizations. Two neighborhoods are selected by The City per year and Kennedy Heights has been selected for the spring 2012 session which will take place from March through May 2012.
The NEP focuses on developing neighborhood assets. Integrated service delivery includes:
- Concentrating building code enforcement
- Identifying and "cooling down" crime hot spots
- Cleaning up streets, sidewalks, and vacant lots
- Beautifying landscapes, streetscapes and public right of way
- Engaging property owners and residents to create and sustain a more livable neighborhood
Through focused, integrated and concentrated City service delivery and community redevelopment efforts, partners will seek to improve the quality of life in Kennedy Heights. The targeted areas are identified through an analysis of building code violations, vacant buildings, disorder and drug calls, drug arrests, as well as incidence of graffiti, junk autos, litter and weeds.
The boundaries for the NEP program in Kennedy Heights include the area between Montgomery to Woodford and Rodgers Park to McHugh.

CITIZEN INPUT NEEDED FOR COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT WISH LIST |
 |
We will be having a
community input session to finalize our "Wish List" on Thursday, January 12, from 6:30-
8:00 at The Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church.
At this input session, we will be developing a wish list of items we would like to see
The City address in our neighborhood through the Neighborhood Enhancement Program
(NEP). Ideas need to be detailed such as improved lighting at the Kennedy Park, or
repaving Tyne, or seasonal banners on poles along the business district. Ideas can be
for improvements to an existing situation or for something entirely new. We would like
to see as many people as possible attend to give their ideas on improvements for our
community.
If you are unable to attend, please e-mail any ideas or suggestions to
Natalie@KennedyHeights.org by noon on Thursday, January 12 to be included in the
list. The suggestion list will be approved at the Kennedy Heights Community Council
Meeting on Tuesday, January 17.

Playhouse in the Park returns to District A |
 |
Mark your 2012 calendar for SAT, January 21, 7 - 8:30 PM. That's when Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park returns to District A with a performance of WAR at Nativity School's Performing Arts Center, 5936 Ridge Road. This play about four young men who are trying to figure out what the world expects of them creates a unique opportunity for our local audience to explore some of the causes and effects of the violence that touches us all. The 'talk-back' with the actors still 'in character' will draw out diverse voices and viewpoints across our own neighborhoods. So join the conversation and enjoy the show! For more information, phone 513-557-3850. Visit www.district-a.org

Kennedy Heights Arts Center |
 |
Opening Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend, Kennedy Heights Arts Center in partnership with Juneteenth Cincinnati is pleased to present a stunning new exhibit entitled Beyond Emancipation. The show is an exploration of African-American culture through contemporary art, with works on display representative of the connection between the past and recent history.
All are invited to an opening reception on Saturday, January 14 from 6 to 8pm. A gallery talk featuring a panel of artists from the exhibition will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 2pm. All events are free.
The exhibition honors the 25th anniversary of Juneteenth Cincinnati. "Juneteenth" or "Emancipation Day" celebrations are held across the country annually on or near June 19th as an occasion to celebrate one of the most important events in American history -- the end of slavery in America. Cincinnati has held an annual Juneteenth festival since 1988.
Beyond Emancipation will be on display in the Kennedy Heights Arts Center gallery from January 14 to February 25, 2012. Gallery hours are Tuesday - Thursday 10am to 6pm, Friday 10am to 5pm, and Saturday 11am to 4pm.

Metallic Club
The Metallic Club is an organization of retired men from all fields and professions who meet once a week, on Fridays, for social fellowship and to listen to presentations from guest speakers who have worked, traveled, or had interesting experiences locally or around the world.
We get our name from having Silver in our hair, Gold in our teeth, Iron in our blood, Rust in our joints, and Lead in our feet. The Club is non-sectarian and non-political and welcomes all retired men. And, happily, women and non members are invited as guests.
Meetings occur from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays and take place at two locations, the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church and the Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church. Average attendance is about 45.
Friday, Jan. 13

Namibia - Travelogue Speaker: Al Beach
Al will present a colorful travelogue of a tour he made of Namibia. =========================================== Need a piano? Nativity School is giving an Acrosonic to anyone who will pick it up. The sound board is fine, the cabinet not so fine. Call the school 458-6767 to make arrangements.
=========================================== Congrats to Rich Moore of Davenant. In a recent Cincinnati Enquirer business section, there was a small photograph of him with a note that he was recently appointed co-chair of the Bar Association's Greater Cincinnati Minority Counsel Program. Hip, hip, hooray for the neighborhood! Also to KH artist Casey Riordan Millard of the Brazee Street Studios in Oakley who was noted in an enquirer article.
