    Community Council News

There will not be a regular meeting of the Kennedy Heights community council on Tuesday, December 20.

A special meeting will take place on Tuesday December 13th regarding the Communitiy Improvement Wish List. (see following articles)

Community council will be back on regular schedule in January 2012.

KENNEDY HEIGHTS SELECTED FOR CITY'S NEIGHBORHOOD ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM

The Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP) is a 90-day collaborative effort between City departments, neighborhood residents and community organizations. Two neighborhoods are selected by The City per year and Kennedy Heights has been selected for the spring 2012 session which will take place from March through May 2012.

The NEP focuses on developing neighborhood assets. Integrated service delivery includes:

    • Concentrating building code enforcement
    • Identifying and "cooling down" crime hot spots
    • Cleaning up streets, sidewalks, and vacant lots
    • Beautifying landscapes, streetscapes and public right of way
    • Engaging property owners and residents to create and sustain a more livable neighborhood

Through focused, integrated and concentrated City service delivery and community redevelopment efforts, partners will seek to improve the quality of life in Kennedy Heights. The targeted areas are identified through an analysis of building code violations, vacant buildings, disorder and drug calls, drug arrests, as well as incidence of graffiti, junk autos, litter and weeds.

The boundaries for the NEP program in Kennedy Heights include the area between Montgomery to Woodford and Rodgers Park to McHugh.

CITIZEN INPUT NEEDED FOR COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT WISH LIST

Kennedy Heights Community Council will be seeking input from community members on areas they would like to see improved in our community. In lieu of our regular December meeting, we will be having a community input session on Tuesday, December 13, from 6:30-8:30 at The Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church.

At this input session, we will be developing a wish list of items we would like to see The City address in our neighborhood through the Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP). Ideas can be broad or detailed. We would like to see as many people as possible attend to give their ideas on needed improvements for our community.

If you are unable to attend, please e-mail any ideas or suggestions to [email protected] by noon on Tuesday, December 13 to be included in the list.
