  • Greetings!

Don't like the weather in Cincinnati? Just wait a week and you'll go from jackets and heating to shorts and air conditioning!

    Summer break for KHCC

The Kennedy Heights Community Council goes on summer hiatus a month early this year.

There will be no meeting in June or July giving everyone a chance to go on vacation, support the Reds and stay inside with the AC!

The Community Council will be back at it on Tuesday August 16th with lots of big news concerning our annual movie night at drake park, a candidates forum and of course, the 28th annual Kennedy Heights Progressive Dinner.

In the meantime, the executive board will continue to meet monthly. Feel free to contact any of the board members with questions or concerns.

    Have a great summer!

    Kennedy Heights Metallic Club

The Kennedy Heights Metallic Club is an organization of retired men from all fields and professions who meet once a week to join together for social fellowship and to view instructive, educational, and entertaining presentations from guest speakers who have worked and traveled locally and around the world

The organization is non-sectarian and non-political and is open to all retired men.

Meetings occur weekly from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM (September through mid-June) and are held at two locations, the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church and the Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church.

Membership costs are only $1.00 per meeting. Guests are free. Average attendance is about 45.

If a man has one or more of the following, he is in: silver in his hair, gold in his teeth, iron in his blood, rust in his joints, lead in his feet. Of course if he has none of the following and is retired, he is still in.

    Upcoming events:

Fri., June 3, 10:00 am. Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church. Speaker: Thane Maynard, Director, Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. An always interesting speaker. He might or might not bring an animal friend with him (a lion? a tiger?) ___________________________________________________

Fri., June 10, 10:00 am. Pleasant Ridge Prebyterian Church. "Kennedy Heights Cultural Center Project." Speaker: Dr. Ernest J. Barbeau, Chair of Kennedy Heights Development Corporation. An opportunity to hear about an ambitious endeavor in Kennedy Heights.

Following the June 10th meeting, the Metallic Club takes the summer off. Meetings resume in September.

Kennedy Heights Arts Center - Our Future, Now

Youth expressions of the future are the focus of an innovative exhibit featured in SOS ART, which opens on Friday, May 27 at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, 1212 Jackson St in Over-the-Rhine.

The installation celebrates the future dreams, hopes, fears, and aspirations of 5th - 8th grade students throughout Greater Cincinnati who participated in this citywide youth art project developed by the Kennedy Heights Arts Center and Public Allies Cincinnati. Nearly 200 children from public, private, and alternative schools, as well as youth-serving programs, imagined and depicted their respective futures and those of their communities in a multimedia art project.

The artwork of all Our Future Now participants will be displayed as windows to the future in a large-scale cityscape installation, constructed in partnership with local artist and arts educator Cedric Michael Cox and teen students, as a part of the SOS ART show.

SOS ART is an exhibition of creative expressions of peace and justice that includes a range of local artists, from student to professional. The exhibition opens on Friday, May 27 from 6:00pm to midnight and runs through Sunday, June 5.

In addition to its inclusion in SOS ART, Our Future Now will be represented on a panel discussion entitled "Teaching and Using Art for Peace and Justice: Shared Experiences, Thoughts and Future Possibilities." Our Future Now contributors Cedric Michael Cox and Dugan Meyer will participate in this panel discussion on Sunday, May 29 from 3:00 to 5:00pm. Other participants include representatives from the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and Visionaries and Voices.

Support for this project was provided by a grant from the John A. Schroth Family Charitable Trust, PNC Bank, Trustee, Lowe's and Building Value

The Cincinnati Zoo is offering a cell phone recycling program
    • Less than 1% of the millions of cell phones discarded annually are recycled.
    • As a result, hazardous waste leaches into our soil and groundwater.
    • Cell phones also contain an ore called Coltan which is mined in endangered gorilla habitat

If you have any questions about the cell phone recycling program, please contact the Zoo at savingspecies@cincinnatizoo.org
