The Cincinnati Health Department has received calls from individuals in Cincinnati posing as government employees who are contacting local food operators. They are identifying themselves as "health inspectors" and requesting to schedule an inspection in an attempt to collect personal information. The scammers are hoping to collect information to fraudulently sell goods and services and extract money on the internet and to extort money. This scam has also been reported in other parts of Ohio.

The Cincinnati Health Department does not call to set up food service inspections. Health inspectors show up unannounced and wear a picture ID that identifies them as City of Cincinnati Health Department employees.

Food operators should be aware of this possible threat. Restaurant owners and food service operators should never give out personal, private or secure information to anyone without first confirming the person's identity. If any food operators receive these fraudulent calls or are suspicious of a health inspector for any reason they should call 513-564-1751 or 513-352-2908 for verification.
