Can you believe it's back to school time already? Where did the summer go? Things are still hot in Kennedy Heights, so check out all of the news!

Summer Concert Series at KHAC Tonight!

Help the Kennedy Heights Arts Center celebrate the last few days of summer (sniff!) by getting a big group of our friends and neighbors together for their last two remaining summer concerts on the lawn. They'll be featuring some of the best talent in Cincinnati, certain to be crowd-pleasers.

Tonight, Thursday, August 12, Tracy Walker will be performing the eclectic folk music that's put her at the forefront of Cincinnati's independent music scene for more than a decade.

Then, on Thursday, August 19, our final concert will feature Cincinnati favorite Ricky Nye with his rockin' boogie-woogie blues (on our Play Me I'm Yours piano!) and local jazz legend the Erwin Stuckey Band.

The music starts at 7 pm. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. A picnic dinner might be nice, too (with whatever kind of beverages you wish to bring). You bring the people - The KHAC will bring the ice cream (enough for everyone)! It will be a great time!

    KENNEDY HEIGHTS OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT

The Kennedy Heights Community Council is proud to bring the community a FREE outdoor movie night on Saturday August 28 at the entrance to Drake Park. The movie this year will be the Academy Award winning animated film "Up". The Movie will begin at dusk (around 8:30-8:45 pm) on a giant inflatable screen and there will be cartoons shown prior to the stare of the movie.

There will also be concessions for sale so you can enjoy popcorn with your movie! Last year we had around 75 people attend and it would be great if we could double that number this year. There's plenty of room on the lawn to bring your family, your neighbors and your friends! And did we mention it's FREE?

A big Thank You goes out to Michele Dragga and Cincinnati Parks for coordinating this event for us! Bring the family and a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the last days of summer in one of Kennedy Heights' beautiful parks.

Progressive Dinner Right Around the Corner!

It's never too early to star planning for Kennedy Height's signature event! This year's Progressive Dinner will be held on Saturday September 25, and as always there are a number of ways you can be involved.

Gala of International Dance Stars This Saturday

    Play Me I'm Yours

There is a new fixture on the front porch of Kennedy Heights Arts Center that's been getting some attention: a beautifully painted piano.

The piano is part of the city-wide public art installation Play Me I'm Yours by Luke Jerram sponsored by Cincinnati Public Radio. Throughout August, 35 street pianos will be installed across Greater Cincinnati in public parks, streets and squares for any member of the public to play and enjoy. The project celebrates the anniversaries of 90.9 WGUC (50 years), 91.7 WVXU (40 years), and 88.5 WMUB (60 years).

The piano will stay on the KHAC porch through September 17, then the Arts Center will be able to keep it inside permanently.

The piano was designed and painted by teens in the KHAC Camp Create summer program under the guidance of artist Cedric Micheal Cox and Bryn Sharp. Entitled "Neighborhood Harmony", the piano features homes and gardens from Kennedy Heights. We think you'll agree the students did a fabulous job!

This Saturday, August 14, KHAC will be welcoming the piano with a celebration from 12 noon to 3 pm. Pianists of all ages and levels are invited to come play (and the rest of us will come to listen!). Maya Stockman, our piano's "buddy", will be kicking us off at noon with a selection by Grieg. Then, it will be your turn! Sign up when you get there and players will get their big chance in the order of arrival.

So please join KHAC on Saturday for music and refreshments on the porch, and let's celebrate how the arts are bringing people together in the community
