A highlight of the meeting will be a presentation by Ed Cunningham, Senior Supervisor for the City's Buildings and Inspections Division. Calling all Young Professionals!

Mayor Mark Mallory is calling young professionals throughout the region to apply for his Young Professionals Kitchen Cabinet (YPKC). The online application is available at mayormallory.com/ypkc, and applications will be accepted through December 3, 2008.

The YPKC has over 100 members on 10 committees. Next year, the committees will be Arts and Entertainment, Economic Development, Education, Health and Environment, Housing, Neighborhood Enhancement, Parents and Young Families, Public Safety and Transportation. Members serve 11-month, renewable terms beginning in January.

In 2008, the YPKC created and partnered on over a dozen successful policies and initiatives, including the Mayor's Award for Educational Excellence, a partnership with public and private entities on a two-day Building Valued Neighborhoods Conference, and a collaboration with Lighthouse Youth Services to recruit more young single fathers into their REAL Dads program. A complete list of 2008 initiatives is available on the website.

In addition to those initiatives, members of the YPKC served as a panelist organization for the 2008 International Young Professionals Summit, were interviewed by Germany's Bavarian Broadcasting Company, and helped bring VH1's Allison Becker to Cincinnati in September to film Top 20 Video Countdown, which was seen in millions of homes around the world.

A Giving Tree will display ornaments fashioned just for this occasion by the artists. Proceeds from their sale will benefit the children's arts programs at Kennedy Heights Arts Center.

The show runs through December 20, 2008. Gallery hours are Saturdays 10 am - 4 pm and by appointment. For more information, call 513-631-4278.

    Neighborhood Notes

Each year, the Cincinnati Horticultural Society (sponsors of the Cincinnati Flower Show in the Spring) recognizes amateur gardeners whose personal dedication and love for gardening creates beautiful spaces which are inspirational to all who see them. All gardens in the Greater Cincinnati area are eligible and should be meticulously maintained throughout the year and represent gardening at its best.

In August, members of the Society requested a tour of our winning gardens after reading about our landscape awards in the Cincinnati Enquirer. We were pleased to learn that four Kennedy Heights residences were honored and presented with a special plaque at a Gardeners Recognition Ceremony that was held at Symmes Township Park on October 15, 2008.

    Congratulations to our winning neighbors:

    • Lori Puthoff--Aikenside Avenue - Best Use of Color
    • Major and Winona McNeil--Davenant Avenue -Best Use of Ornamental Grasses
    • Lois and David Paterson--Davenant Avenue - Best Unusual Plant Display
    • Mike Maloney and Jeff Dey--Wyatt Avenue - Best Single Genus Display-Dahlias
All the winners will be included in the Cincinnati Horticultural Society's 2009 Summer Garden Tour. The Gardener Recognition is sponsored by Cincinnati Magazine. More information is available at www.cincyflowershow.com.
