    October Community Council Meeting

This meeting will occur at the Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church Tuesday October 21st at 7PM

Elections will be held for the 2009 board of trustees, and the meeting will feature a Q&A with candidates for election to various offices, and ballot issues. This will include proponents and opponents for ballot issues such as the city of Cincinnati's issue 8 - Proportional Representation for election to City Council featuring Better Ballot for Cincinnati Committee, and Councilmember Jeff Berding. Also invited is Candidate for Hamilton County Treasurer: Steve Brinker (D).

Plant Swap to proceed Tuesday Meeting

Ever heard of a Plant Swap?

Here's an easy way to spruce up your home or garden for the coming months. Just bring us some of your extra plants to share and take a plant for next season. Please make sure the plants have some soil or are moist. No plant to swap? leave a donation for next year's flowers and plants for the committee

It all takes place before the community council meeting 7PM, outside the Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church (weather permitting) otherwise, you'll find the plant swap inside the church.

Sponsored by the Kennedy Heights Beautification Committee

Discussion: Maintaining Community in Kennedy Heights

Join us for an interesting presentation and discussion about Kennedy Heights.

    IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Community Exhibition Running Through November 8

What does your neighborhood mean to you and how are you connected? Over the past month, residents of all ages from Kennedy Heights and nearby have been working together to create a collaborative art installation that explores this question with the help of visual artist Kate Kern.

This project is part of a 4-week Ohio Arts Council funded Artist-in-Residence program. Ms. Kern, a Kennedy Heights resident, has been working with diverse groups of residents (about 115 in all) using drawing, writing and photography to create artwork on the theme: In Our Neighborhood -- Expressing a Sense of Place. The resulting collaborative installation is be on display in our galleries.

Participants in the project at Kennedy Heights Arts Center include youth, adults, seniors, residents of Geier Apartments and students at Woodford Paideia School.

The installation consists of artwork created by community residents through the residency. In Our Neighborhood incorporates residents' memories and experiences in their neighborhood through drawing, painting, photography and text.

Gallery hours are Saturdays 10 am - 4 pm and by appoinment. For more information, call 631-4278.

Our friends at the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) would like to thank the residents of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky for their efforts to help improve the region's air quality.

In 2008, Hamilton County Environmental Services issued 10 days of smog alerts which is a decrease from last season's 24 days.

The decrease in smog alerts during the 2008 season shows promise for clean air in the future, especially with a new, more stringent ozone standard in place.

"It is important for the community to acknowledge the standards and realize their importance," said OKI Board President and Liberty Township Trustee Christine Matacic. "By working together we can provide clean and safe air for everyone to breathe."

For more information about OKI's Clean Air program visit www.DoYourShare.org or call 1-800-621-SMOG.
