Greetings!
The chill is in the air, the leaves are
starting to fall (those that didn't already
during the hurricane!) and there is lots
going on in Kennedy Heights!

Launch of DISTRICT A (where arts and community meet) |
 |
On Saturday, October 11, come celebrate the
art of city living in your own neighborhood
at the all-day launch of District A.
A new
citizens initiative-the Montgomery Corridor
Arts Collaborative, or MCAC-has been busy
developing District A with the Community
Councils of Kennedy Heights and Pleasant
Ridge. Our website isdistrict-a.org
On Saturday, October 11, as part of
Cincinnati's 20
Days/20 Nights celebration, our community
doors will be open to all. Here's a glimpse
of what you'll enjoy along Montgomery Road
between Kennedy and Losantiville Avenues.
Start your day with the "Tie-Dye Mile"
at 10
a.m., a leisurely one-mile walk with family
and friends or a sprint along the District A
Corridor. Sign up at TieDyeMile.com
All morning you can sample free dance classes
at ballet tech. At noon, see the Art Show at
McFarland's corner, or listen to the Adagio
Trio on the porch of the Kennedy Heights Arts
Center. Afternoon options include KHAC's
outdoor arts stations in the garden,
children's activities at the Pleasant Ridge
Library, community art with Happen, Inc., and
the Frisch Marionettes back at ballet
tech.
Music will be everywhere in the afternoon.
Hear the funky sounds of Ryan Adcock, Souse,
and JazzItUp; discover K-Drama's Christian
rap; enjoy the rockin' rhythms of Tracy
Walker, Mike Fair & the Adventure Seekers,
the Nativity C.O.D.E., and more. Between
sets, be sure to check out what the
Perk and
the Pea Pod have to offer.
A special 'retrospective' exhibit at the
corner of Ridge/Montgomery will let you meet
five artist neighbors who call District A
their home. See the work of 20th century
modernists Noel Martin and Coletta Martin,
photographer Gordon Baer, and watercolorists
Nancy Nordloh Neville (demonstration at
1:30), and Bruce Neville (demonstration at
3:00).
In the evening, enjoy the art exhibit opening
at Kennedy Heights Art Center at six p.m.
Then preview ballet tech's East vs. West Side
Story at eight, followed by Non-Vertical Girl
at nine. Whenever you wish, enjoy Dark Moll
at Molly Malone's, art at the Gas Light Café,
Ethiopian fare at Emanu, and Pleasant Ridge
Chili, of course.
You'll be doin' art yourself before you say
goodbye to this new and unique street
festival linking Kennedy Heights and Pleasant
Ridge along Montgomery Road.
The truth is we can't do it without you, and
we're hoping that you'll lend a hand.
Visit us at www.district-a.org. Check the
full list of District A events, times and
venues on October 11th and volunteer now for
the job that suits your talents and interests.

IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
COMMUNITY EXHIBITION OPENS OCTOBER 11<br>
What does your neighborhood mean to you and
how are you connected? Over the past month,
residents of all ages from Kennedy Heights
and nearby have been working together to
create a collaborative art installation that
explores this question with the help of
visual artist Kate Kern.
This project is part of a 4-week Ohio Arts
Council funded Artist-in-Residence program.
Ms. Kern, a Kennedy Heights resident, has
been working with diverse groups of residents
(about 115 in all) using drawing, writing and
photography to create artwork on the theme:
In Our Neighborhood -- Expressing a Sense of
Place. The resulting collaborative
installation will be on display in our
galleries for one month, opening October 11.
Participants in the project at
Kennedy Heights Arts Center include youth,
adults, seniors, residents of Geier
Apartments and students at Woodford
Paideia
School.
The installation consists of artwork created
by community residents through the residency.
In Our Neighborhood incorporates
residents'
memories and experiences in their
neighborhood through drawing, painting,
photography and text.
All are invited to a Opening Reception on
Saturday, October 11 from 6 to 8 pm with
complimentary refreshments. Come and
celebrate our wonderful community! The
exhibition will run from October 11 to
