parents teach their children by using common
elements in the environment. There are signs
that instruct parents as they walk along the
trail. The activities help strengthen the
parent-child bond

Landscape Awards |
 |
It's time again to nominate a neighbor for a
2008 Kennedy Heights Landscape Award.
This
program rewards Kennedy Heights residents who
go "above and beyond" in keeping their part
of the community beautiful.
Last year, the Landscape Awards Committee
received 24 landscape nominations through the
mail, our website, and at Council meetings.
Nominations were received from neighborhoods
north and south of Montgomery Road. The
criteria for judging the landscape nominees
is based on the color/texture, design and
maintenance. Help us celebrate those who make
our neighborhood a bit more
beautiful.

Beautification Committee |
 |
Carolyn Thompson of Dogwood Lane and
Jim
Zarnowiecki of Beechview Circle are taking on
the co-chair responsibilities of Kennedy
Heights' Beautification Committee for
2008-2009.
The Council Board has asked them to take on
two new projects:
- The Mayor has challenged communities to
250 new green bin re-cycling customers for a
$1000 city prize.
- Councilman Monzel has an effort underway
to supply more of the street side green bins.
Locations are being identified for these
bins.
In addition, Alle Nurre of Kinoll has
already
energized the co-chairs to replace gateway
plants at Woodford and Kennedy and Aikenside
and Kennedy and Randall Ball of Ravenswood
has become active to help with the re-cycling
bins, the green street side waste cans and to
expand the Council discussion to supply
locally grown produce and perhaps study the
feasibility of a community garden.
The Committee needs more volunteers
and interested "Beautifiers" for additional
projects. We will be a growing committee
organized to make Kennedy Heights stand out
and volunteering to tackle all those bright
spots in our community that can use flowers,
shrubs, trees, spit and polish and a little
paint to make coming home each day a real
treat.
Here's what you can do:
- Call and leave a message to volunteer to
plant, water, weed, etc.------ 531-4041
- Nominate a neighbor for the Landscape
Award
- Call KHCC for a new recycling bin.
Delivered to your door. Just call - 531-4041
- Call and complain! Where is that
favorite spot in Kennedy Heights that you
would like to see improved, planted,
re-designed, watered? Call us!
