Greetings!
No need for the February blues, because

this month!

New Neighborhood Identity Signs - Possible Logo Update |
 |
Last year, and thanks to the efforts of Jenn
Hackman, Kennedy Heights received a grant
from the city to install new neighborhood
identification signs at our corporation
boundaries. The new signs must be designed
and installed by the end of this year. The
yin-yang symbol has been the KHCC's logo for
more than thirty years and was featured atop
the old signs.
With the recognition that over $30,000 would
be spent designing and installing the new
signs, KHCC established an ad-hoc committee
to consider a potential update of the logo.
We are still looking for residents, business
operators, and property owners to offer their
comments and opinions on how, or if!, the
logo should be updated and what the new signs
should look like.
A design workshop held
last December 8th provided an opportunity for
neighbors to share their ideas about a
prospective logo.
Attendees offered the following comments at
the meeting:
- The legacy of the Yin-Yang symbol should
be incorporated in some way on any new logo
- The idea of unity and inclusion is
important
- Any new symbol should reflect current
energies from Arts & Cultural Enterprises,
Churches and Schools, Development Efforts &
Successes and the Natural Beauty of the
Neighborhood
- The new logo should be simple and
adaptable.
A third workshop will be held at KHCC's
office this Saturday, February 9th at 10:00
AM. Your participation is important and all
KH residents, friends, and neighbors are
invited to attend.
If you can not attend, please look for a link
to an on-line survey on our website
(www.kennedyheights.org) and take a few
moments to complete a brief questionnaire.
Your responses will be used to guide
Brownstone Design as they prepare concepts
for a possible next-generation logo.
We would like to hold at least one additional
public meeting or workshop before any formal
recommendations are presented to Community
Council. Check the website and stay tuned for
details on future public meetings.

Kennedy Heights Urban Redevelopment Corporation Back in Action |
 |
Kennedy Heights Urban Redevelopment
Corporation (KHURC) is back at work exploring
ways to help advance the strategic goals and
priorities of Kennedy Heights. Community
Council formally approved the appointment of
an interim board of directors in December
(verify) of last year. KHURC hopes to
nominate candidates for a permanent board no
later than September 2008. In the mean-time
KHURC is working on ways that it can assist
in the revitalization of the Montgomery Road
corridor and how it might help stem problems
with foreclosures and the deterioration of
neighborhood housing stock where it is occurring.

----------------------------------------------------- Beneath
the ball park and walking track known as June
Alexander Park is a huge water tank. The pump
house on Kennedy Avenue is
disguised as a brick apartment building. And
the latest construction by the pump house is
a back-up generator-- required, we've been
told, by
Homeland Security. Construction should be
completed by the end of February with
landscaping in the spring.
KHCC has worked with the Water
Works to keep the equipment as
unobtrusive as possible
---------------------------------------- Please
make a note to attend the next meeting of the
Woodford Community Learning Center Planning
team on Feb 25th at 6:30pm. This group is
making desicions that will shape the new
school scheduled to be built in our
neighborhood. Another meeting is scheduled
for March 10th. Both meetings occur at the
Woodford school
