  • Greetings!

October 2008 is an important milestone for me. It was 30 years ago this month that I entered the auto repair business with my own shop.

Some of you have been been trusting me to service your cars for most of that time. Others have discovered Prestige Imports more recently. And many of you have also purchased cars from us since we began selling used imports many years ago.

In good times we grew enough to build our current building on 29th Street (1985) and expand it with a new showroom and waiting room (2006). In lean economic times, like today, we just hope to survive so we can continue serving our customers.

At all times, our success and our survival depend on loyal customers. Please accept my sincere THANKS for the opportunity to serve you.

    Joe Licari, Owner

    Domestic or Import?
    globe

If you hear someone criticize people who buy "foreign" cars, you know they're living in the past. Many import brands are assembled in the US by American workers. Yet many domestic brands are assembled overseas.

Furthermore, there are numerous joint ventures among US, European and Asian manufacturers that make it even harder to pigeonhole vehicles as simply domestic or import.

We found an article that provides a lot of detail on the global nature of the auto business. Take a look now and you'll know what to say the next time this subject comes up.

    Young Buyers Prefer Imports
    Young Driver

In a major warning to Detroit, J.D. Power and Associates reported that young consumers have a strong bias against domestic vehicles.

The marketing information services firm said "many buyers continue to have unfavorable impressions of domestic models due to concerns about quality, reliability and depreciation issues."

    Mirrors and Blind Zones
    Side Mirror

Looking over the shoulder when merging or changing lanes takes your eyes off the road for 100 feet and results in 225 deaths annually. The solution? It's all done with mirrors.

In this brief article from AAA you'll learn the technique for setting your car's side mirrors. Do this right and you can eliminate both blind spots.

    Mercedes Hybrid Electric

In June 2009 Mercedes Benz will begin European sales of a hybrid version of its luxury S-Class that, its engineers say, will get 30 miles per gallon. Launches in the U.S. and China will follow in September 2009.

If you want a new one, you better start saving. A base model of the Mercedes S-Class with the hybrid electric feature will sell for somewhere around $100,000 in the U.S.

    2004 Honda Pilot EX
    2004 Honda Pilot

This month's featured vehicle from our lot is a 2004 Honda Pilot EX. Edmunds called this model "one of the best crossover SUVs available...an excellent choice for active and large families in need of versatility."

183 consumers have reviewed the 2004 Honda Pilot on Edmunds.com and have given it an average rating of 9.0 on a 10.0 scale. This particular vehicle has all the options, including heated seats, and only 42,000 miles. The price is $16,200. Call Joe or Phil Licari to arrange a test drive or just come in.
