Greetings! This issue includes several useful articles, including one of the most detailed reports on top vehicle safety ratings that we've ever seen. Many of you have already taken advantage of our Winter Service Special. If you still haven't done so, see the "Get Your Vehicle Ready for Winter" coupon at the bottom of this issue. It expires 12/31/07. We wish you and your family a Merry Christmas!
Joe Licari, Owner
This is the time of year when you're most likely to be jump starting someone's car. It seems simple. But doing it wrong can have disastrous consequences. See this brief article from AAA on How to Safely Jump-Start Your Car. If you have young drivers in the family, you should review it with them and maybe even keep a printout in the glove box.
One of the main reasons we love imports is safety. When The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested the 2007 vehicles (the very newest of used vehicles) their 13 Top Safety Pick awards were ALL import brands. They selected cars, SUVs, and minivans. Their safest vehicle list included familiar brands like Audi, Mercedes, Volvo, Saab, Acura, Honda and Subaru. We have a complete report that lists the top 13 models plus 16 runner-up models that scored nearly as well. None of those other 16 were domestic brands either. So imports accounted for all 29 of the safest vehicles!
Do you ever wonder if the gas you get from no-name stations is as good for your vehicle as the brand name gas? Most of the time it's just as good. Yes, you CAN get bad gas from certain stations. But it isn't the brand of gas that's important. Our report tells you what to look out for.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has tested about 100 aftermarket devices that claimed to save fuel. They found only six that resulted in improvements in fuel economy without increasing exhaust emissions-and those improvements were very small. Four other devices also made very small improvements, but they increased emissions, and therefore, consumers who use them could face charges of illegal tampering. Don't fall for any claims that a simple device can boost fuel economy in a meaningful way. The EPA test program is described on our web site. At the end there is a link to a full list of the devices tested with individual reports.
If you'd like a safe, all wheel drive vehicle with third row seating, we have a great one. This 2005 MERCEDES BENZ E320 4MATIC is fully loaded including navigation system, heated seats, 6 disc CD changer, power sunroof, keyless entry, memory seats, wood grain steering wheel and trim. It's in excellent shape with only 37,000 miles. Someone else took the big depreciation hit from buying a new car. So you can enjoy this vehicle for a fraction of the cost. Call Joe or Phil Licari to arrange a test drive or just come in.
If you had a vehicle serviced at Prestige Imports or came in to shop for a car, we need your feedback. Please visit the survey section of our web site and take a two-minute survey.
