Member of the Month: Mary Milligan
Mary and Nick

Mary Milligan first began her fitness journey years ago, when a different gym occupied the space where Razor Sharp North is currently located. After working out for awhile, she had to stop because she was experiencing problems with her feet and ankles. She did not resume exercising again until Razor North opened this past December.

Mary decided to join because it was convenient (it's located very close to her home) and she had suddenly become diabetic this past year, and felt she would be able to change that. Her goals that she had set for herself were to improve her overall health, but more importantly she wanted to try to get off of her medications. She also felt that if she loses weight, her foot and ankle pain (which she still deals with) would improve.

It has been four months since Mary joined Razor Sharp, and 3 months since she began training with Nick Estep, one of Razor Sharp's Personal Trainers. She trains with Nick two days a week, and also exercises on her own another two or three times each week. Currently she is off of her blood pressure medications, her cholesterol levels are down, and her long-term blood sugar levels are practically normal.

Mary stated, "In the last two months I have lost about 30lbs., while also increasing my stamina and motivation. When I first started with Nick, I could only ride the bike for about 20 minutes. Now I am able to go 45 minutes on the elliptical at a much faster pace." She went on to say, "Nick's nutritional information and help is excellent! I look forward to my workouts and plan to continue training with him to reach my goals. I feel empowered by the work we do!"

    Join Razor Sharp Personal Trainers for a large group workout including intervals with body weight exercises, dumbbells, resistance bands, and the TRX Suspension Training System. The TRX Suspension Training System is a type of training that uses your own body weight and gravity to build strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, and joint stability, all while preventing injuries. Best of all, every exercise requires the use of the core muscles for stabilization.

    We have 2 classes (Mondays or Thursdays at 5:30am with Amanda) that will run for 6 weeks, from April 12th - May 21st. We will also have one evening class (Mondays at 5:00pm with Jenny) that will run 5 weeks, from April 23rd - May 21st. For fees and registration, please stop by the front desk.     Since 1983 I have been a Licensed Barber/Cosmetologist Manager, but I graduated in 2005 with 850 hours from Blue Sky School of Professional Massage & Therapeutic Bodywork and have been practicing for the past seven years as a Licensed Massage Therapist. I have also furthered my studies in Ayurvedic Therapies.

    In massage therapy I specialize in deep therapeutic work. I also combine Reiki, Cranial Sacral, and Neuromuscular Therapies. What brought me to my studies is that I never was able to get the answers to my health questions so I decided to learn what I needed to help myself and educate myself to get healthier. I am here to bring my resources to you so if you have any questions please contact me here at Razor Sharp. I am looking forward to meeting with you.

    In the quest for fitness and health, the two biggest barriers to adherence are time and commitment. These barriers feed off of one another and have an inverse relationship. If more time is required, the level of commitment is going to decline. This is where having a simple training outline and plan can help you make the most of your time here at Razor Sharp. Especially with spring and summer arriving ever so quickly! Training economy is doing more with the same amount of time, with that in mind here are some tips to for you get more done in less time.

    • Train movements, not muscles! The more muscles and joints involved in an exercise, the better bang for your buck.
    • Limit yourself to less than 8 exercises! This is a great way to cut out the fluff and leave what is essential when strength training.
    • Think of fitness as a pie chart! Include time for flexibility, strength training and cardiovascular exercise.
    • Put balance in your training! The things we are commonly not good at are most likely the things holding us back, and predisposing us to injury or dysfunction.
    • Health and fitness is a 24/7/365 journey, not a sprint. Consistency in exercise, diet, and lifestyle habits are essential! Slowly work to do a little more everyday or get a little better each day.

    Remember, it's not always what you do; it's how you do it! If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you!

  • Register Now for the Ruud Rush 5K Run/ Walk
  • Don't forget to mark your calendars to participate in the Ruud Rush 5K on Saturday, May 19th! You must sign-up at the front desk before May 11th to receive an orange "Team Razor Sharp" t-shirt. You may still register online until Friday, May 18th however, and be on the Razor team, we just cannot guarantee an orange Razor team shirt for the race. Whether you are a runner or walker, you will have a great time! Stop by the front desk and register today!

  • Every Saturday from 5:00pm-7:00pm, members from both the Main and Northside locations can bring in their children to swim, shoot hoops, play ping pong, or even lift weights on the workout floor (Children must be 10 and older, and with their parent to be on the workout floor. Children must be potty trained to swim). A minor release form will need to be completed by a parent upon attending.

    • Main Location Members - FREE for members, spouses, and children
    • Northside Location Members- $5 per person (members, spouses, and children)
