Lila

The Energizer Bunny. That is Lila's new nickname. Lila has always been active. She's walked daily for years and even used to go the gym at 4:00 am. I was a member of Razor Sharp and kept telling her how great it was so she joined Razor Sharp in 2009, coming from another local gym, to be able to swim and participate in Zumba. She started attending Muscle Works and Cardio Kick, began personal training sessions, and started swimming lessons to prepare for her third Trek Triathlon.

Something happened in April of 2011 that sparked Lila's Total Body Transformation. She met Sally Edwards, the founder of the Danskin Triathlon, and heard her speak at the Trek Expo at the State Fair Park. She was already signed up for her third Trek Triathlon in July and determined to do her best by utilizing the Triathlon Training Program at Razor Sharp. The triathlon coaches- Alan in cycling, Dan in swimming and Angie in running, created a training program based on her current abilities and her goals. The most amazing aspect of the training is the value; having personalized attention helped her stretch her abilities until she broke through to the next level. Alan and Dan's unwavering support and belief in her ability kept her motivated- and they were proven right! Another benefit of the triathlon training was that she realized that to be able to do the training properly she had to fuel her body and "having a food hangover is not conducive to good performance."

She continued to attend Guts and Butts and Muscle Works and started attending Yoga. She immediately signed up for the Danskin Triathlon as soon as the Trek was over and finished with a personal best time. Concerned about how she'd spend her non-training time, she signed up for the Total Body Transformation Challenge. At the beginning of the challenge, she was 10 pounds from her Weight Watchers goal weight. In addition to the team challenges and TRX training, Lila started Masters Swimming, weekly yoga classes. This is a lot of gym time and during the week, her husband Larry wasn't seeing her as much. He says, "I've lost some personal time with Lila but the time we have together is quality. I am excited about her progress through this whole adventure especially given that she didn't really start all this until she was in her late 50's, which is a time when most people (like me) slow down. I guess I am living vicariously through her and her successes." He went on to say, "When she started the triathlon training she said 'I can't run 8 minutes' and I told her 'not yet'." She still uses that as an example of how perseverance pays off and she ran a 4 mile race in August!

What is the key to her success? Just keep going! Lila utilizes Razor Sharp resources- the trainers, the classes, Krista's amazing massages and sees Ed Van De Water at Advanced Spine and Sport Physical Therapy next door. All those members of "Team Lila" have sculpted someone healthier and happier and smaller than she has been for a long time. Currently, she's below her Weight Watchers goal, training for a Half Marathon, and an Olympic Distance triathlon next year, and determined to beat me at next year's Trek Triathlon. She's added TRX classes and another day of Master Swimming and looks forward to competing in the next challenge!

Lila's advice for others is to step out of your comfort zone and try something new! Know that you are not going to be perfect; you just have to keep at it. If you do an activity you don't like, try something else. Also, surround yourself with people who believe in you and can help you achieve your goals. All the members of "Team Lila"- Larry, Jennifer, Alan, Dan, Krista and Ed and the other staff and members of Razor Sharp are great cheerleaders and trainers and have helped her accomplish her goals.
