Member of the Month: Debbie Rudan
I'm still not sure why I am receiving this honor, but it's funny, because I was just at the doctor for a physical. I am very fortunate, because at age 58, I am very healthy. As part of our conversation, my doctor was getting into my family history, and asked if that had anything to do with my desire to remain physically fit. My mom died at age 43 (I was 11) from a cerebral hemorrhage, and my dad was an alcoholic. It goes without saying that I was influenced by those events, and was committed to not taking the same path my father did.
I also like to eat, which is one of the reasons I started running while I was I college. I've run two marathons, many Lighthouse runs, and countless fun runs. After about 10 years of running it was my husband, Mike, who inspired me to get started lifting weights, as I was looking for additional ways to stay in shape and change the look of my body. Well, as I age, I certainly don't seem to have as much control over what is happening to my skin, but I am very proud to say that I completed the Tough Mudder event this summer, and continue to try different methods of exercise to stay in shape. I always tell my friends that I am going to keep going until someone, or something, tells me I can't anymore!
Thank you to all at Razor Sharp - you make me feel welcome when I come to the gym. Tenille, Jeremiah, Alan, Jenny and Howie have all done their best to make me work hard! ALL of the staff make going to work out more enjoyable, and I am happy that no one seems to care about how old I am, but instead encourage me by telling me I can do whatever I set my mind to do!

Greetings!
Hello and welcome to the November issue of the Razor Sharp Fitness newletter! In the next few weeks, you'll see some big changes here at Razor Sharp as we continue to grow and expand. On Monday, November 28th we will be installing all new strength training equipment. This includes more than 20 pieces of Life Fitness selectorized equipment and 5 additional pieces of Hammer Strength equipment. This new equipment is state of the art and will greatly enhance your workout experience.
Given that this is a major undertaking to dismantle and move the current equipment off the weight floor, we will need to close the entire club on Sunday, November 27th. We understand that this may be an inconvenience for some but we need to ensure everyone's safety as we move the equipment out of the club and thoroughly clean the weight floor and get it ready for the new equipment on Nov. 28.
In the coming weeks, you will also see many new pieces of the cardio equipment. We will be replacing the 5 Precor ellipticals, and adding 5 treadmills and 3 total body ellipticals. Various pieces of the cardio equipment will be arriving on different dates and we anticipate limited inconvenience as we "shuffle the cardio deck" to accommodate the new equipment.

| Acupuncture for Seasonal Allergies |
| |
Seasonal allergies can be understood as the interaction of our immune systems with pathogens in the environment. On the other hand, from the approach of acupuncture, allergies are simply sensitivities in our body's energy, something that disrupts the balance of qi. Allergies are treatable with acupuncture in two ways. First, acupuncture can alleviate symptoms such as itchy eyes, fatigue, headache, and stuffiness by moving energy in local problem areas. Second, it can provide a root treatment to clear underlying causes by bringing the body into balance.
Whether you call it an allergy or a sensitivity, this interaction is often the trigger of headaches, neck discomfort, and sinus conditions such as congestion and sneezing. Bringing the body into a better energy balance with acupuncture not only gives relief from annoying symptoms, it can help the entire energy system operate more efficiently.
When the patterns of excess and deficiency are harmonized, allergic extremes are often diminished or corrected. For example, energy not flowing from the head to the rest of the body can be cleared by using acupuncture points that connect the head to the hands, or the head to the feet and thereby dissipate excess energy, or allow stuck energy to move smoothly. If you or someone you know is suffering with seasonal allergies, I am happy to speak with you about how acupuncture treatments can help.
